Job Description

25 Coordinates Capital Projects Primary responsibility is to coordinate large and small capital projects within Operations and with the project clients. This would include coordinating any enabling work necessary for the primary project to be accomplished. Work on a wide range of preplanning and planning initiatives to assist in Operations project delivery. Provide KU leaders Vice Chancellor Operations University Architect University Engineer with project coordination support.

25 Stakeholders Communication Convenes meetings to include key stakeholders ensuring all parties are working collaboratively toward project success. Be the liaison that clients can communicate with regarding project success stories or issues. Work to understand the expectations of all involved. On cross jurisdictional projects communicate with the city of Lawrence to make sure projects are aligned with the Citys public works plans.

15 Research Conducts research provides data and makes recommendations to achieve project goals. This may include researching what peer institutions are doing on similar projects current trends in higher education and trends in client specific needs.

15 Report Preparation Prepares reports to provide financial and status updates relating to capital projects. Reports may be for Operations University Board of Regents or State of Kansas use. Reports could be project specific or could involve several projects or information as requested. Reports may come from information contained in the CMMS Maximo data base 2024 master plan tools project estimates etc.

10 Strategic Alignment Reviews projects for and documents project alignment with Jayhawks Rising and the 2024 Master Plan.

10 Tax Credits Prepares submits tracks and reports on tax credits. This may be for a variety of tax credits including historic and energy. Works with Operations accounting to sell tax credits.

  1. Bachelors degree in architecture Architectural Engineering Urban Planning or related field.
  2. Five 5 years of experience in the design and construction industry with relevant experience in a professional architectural or engineering office or governmental agency doing project coordination.
  3. Exceptional written communication skills as evidenced in application materials.
  4. As evidenced by application materials experience working with PC computer Microsoft software (Word Excel PowerPoint etc. AutoCAD Bluebeam and other project management and graphic software.


  1. Ten 10 years relevant experience.
  2. Experience with the recent version of CMMS (Maximo).


Position Overview
The Capital Projects Coordinator will coordinate capital projects working closely with Facilities Planning and Development project managers and Facilities Services to assure project success. This position will be responsible for working on project research planning and reporting and communication with clients affected campus users Operations KU leadership and community leaders when appropriate.

Facilities Planning & Development within KU Operations provide design construction and safety services for campus buildings and outdoor areas.   1. Most of the workday will be spent in an office environment consisting of primarily sedentary work and sitting for extended periods.
  2. Periodic visits to project sites which require normal diligence and care common to a potentially dangerous environment such as areas under construction. May involve bending/stooping.
  3. A workday may occasionally need to be longer than a typical 8hour day to address urgent or timecritical issues.
  4. Daily extensive use of a computer using a Microsoft Windows environment and MS Office programs including Outlook Word and Excel; CMMS (Maximo); and other programs which may need to be used on a less frequent basis.
  5. Ability to lift and carry light objects such as files or documents if needed.
