Location:Spokane Falls Main Campus Spokane

Department:SFCC Physical Science Engineer

Open continuous.

Starting salary for this position is: $40.83 $86.87 per hour based on workload category.

This is an adjunct (parttime) position. Compensation will be prorated according to the amount of workload assigned. Spokane Colleges reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. Academic employees are represented by the Association of Higher Education (AHE) which is affiliated with NEA and WEA. Membership is optional.

About Us

SFCC is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Adjunct Geology Instructor in the Science Technology Engineering and Math Division. We are currently looking to fill adjunct positions for theacademic year.

SFCC is a beautiful campus located in the inland Pacific Northwest on the ancestral home of the Spokane Tribe near the Spokane River. Spokane is a midsized city with a high quality of life and quick access to the outdoors. SFCC serves approximately 6000 students from across greater Spokane and five rural counties in our service area including students from the Spokane Tribe other Eastern Washington tribes and from Fairchild Air Force Base. About twothirds of our students enroll in one of our transfer degrees and approximately onethird enroll in one of our professionaltechnical programs.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares for and instructs collegelevel courses in Geology in facetoface hybrid or online formats based on need of the department.
  • Provides availability and accessibility to students through a combination of scheduled office hours email accessibility or other effective means of responsive and timely communication;
  • Provide timely feedback and support to students.
  • Maintain accurate records for course grades.
  • Communicates expectations and establishes clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means to include but not limited to developing course syllabi handouts and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluates student progress and provides clear timely feedback;
  • Complies with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follows established procedures in areas such as printing turning in grades bookstore orders student safety and health issues and related administrative processes;
  • May participate in department and general faculty meetings whenever germane.
  • Maintain professional standards in interactions with the college community.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • An earned Masters degree in Geology from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with teaching (e.g. classroom workshops training sessions etc).
  • Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
  • A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission values goals objectives and strategic plan of Spokane Colleges
  • Ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws regulations and goals of the institution and community and technical college system.
  • Demonstrated competence in working with diverse student populations and an appreciation for diverse voices in the classroom.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience teaching geology labs
  • Experience in online and hybrid course format coupled with experience in using learning management systems to effectively run online and hybrid courses
  • Prior community college experience

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. Benefits Information

Adjunct faculty must work two 2 consecutive quarters at 50 or more of fulltime academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only). Once determined to be eligible benefits begin on the first day of the month following the beginning of the quarter. Medical dental life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAACref retirement plan or WA State Retirement Plan; leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract.
