GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety (DFPES) Training Division is tasked with providing educational and investigative services to Wyomings emergency services response personnel per state statute. This position trains and develops emergency services response personnel within the State. This position coordinates training and certificationrelated activities with emergency services response agencies and conducts fire scene investigations as requested by local agencies within the State. Coordinates the development and implementation of training programs designed to assist firefighters in all phases of fire prevention and suppression activities.

A successful candidate may reside in Rock Springs or surrounding areas which can include but are not limited to: Green River Kemmerer Little America Wamsutter

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Assists with developing strategies to develop program training & evaluation goals objectives and action plans.
  • Designs and conducts fire training courses both cognitive and psychomotor.
  • Maintains education files and required reports following departmental regulations.
  • Prepares and explains course lesson plans updates and revises existing lesson plans.
  • Develops brochures transparencies and other audio/visual aids for training.
  • Reviews and evaluates various commercial training resources to determine their suitability for use in state fire training programs.
  • Prepares and explains course lesson plans updates and revises existing lesson plans.
  • Schedules classes curricula and reviews results of training for employees.
  • Writes training announcements and program summaries.
  • Responsible for creating and implementing learning objectives and developing testing processes in both practical and written form.
  • Investigate the cause and origin of fires and conduct all necessary followup to the case conclusion.
  • Attend court hearings/trials and provide testimony as necessary.
  • Instructs fire classes.
  • Develops lesson plans and programs regarding fire service training and other public safety topics.
  • Performs training and needs assessments for the states fire service.
  • Develops course materials.
  • Performs course evaluation and assists other agency personnel in determining their specific training needs.
  • Uses various firefighting equipment as well as various audiovisual and computer equipment.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


Preference may be given to applicants with a minimum of three years of work experience in firefighting fire prevention fire safety inspection or arson investigation including one year as a trainer with responsibility for classroom training or onthejob training.

**The following is required by the Agency at the time of hire or must be able to obtained within 12 months of the date of hire:



KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of distance learning multimedia instructional methods and curriculum development.
  • Knowledge of training needs assessments instructional design and distributive learning methodology.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures of the work system acquired on the job.
  • Knowledge of appropriate methods and materials to accomplish fire training objectives.
  • Skills in fire suppression tactics and strategies (basic through advanced).
  • Skills in structural and wildland fire suppression.
  • Skills in basic through advanced specialty rescue techniques.
  • Knowledge of National Professional Standards affecting emergency services.
  • Ability to continue to pursue and update skill sets and certifications.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:
Bachelors Degree (typically in Education).
Experience:
02 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of Instructor I.
OR
Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
35 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of Instructor I.
