Job Description
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Fulltime tenmonth
PRIMARY DUTY: Wellness Educator Wellness Education and Prevention is responsible for the coordination of university wellness programs through Wellness Services under the direction of the Assistant Director of WEP. This position works to mobilize create and sustain campuswide health promotion practices in order to create an environment that promotes student success and personal development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Student engagement
Create and sustain an effective Peer Education program (including training and supervision of student participants and/or advisement of relevant student organizations).
Responsible for providing BASICS training (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) for identified students on an individual basis.
Deliver health education programs to various groups on campus and in the greater community.
Organize and facilitate campus/community prevention groups.
Seek out opportunities to integrate health promotion topics into academic curricula by collaborating with faculty guest lecturing in classes service as adjunct faculty etc.
Lead Wellness Services efforts related to marketing/advertising effective social media use and other forms of campus communication.
2. Actively participate in Partners in Prevention (PIPa statewide coalition) and serve as leader of Maryville Partners in Prevention (MVPIPa university/community coalition)
Responsible for establishing MVPIP members scheduling and executing meetings collaboratively establishing a strategic plan and implementing programs to address prevention needs on campus.
Responsible to PIP for submission of annual strategic plans activity reports and other coalition requirements.
Responsible for annual administration of the MACHB Survey (Missouri Assessment of College Health Behaviors).
Plan implement and evaluate health promotion and education interventions using appropriate methods.
Programs must be researchbased and aligned both with university needs and industry best practices.
3. Event planning
Plan and execute events manage logistics marketing and help with dayof operations to ensure seamless .
4. C.A.L.M in Crisis Training
Manage the behindthescenes operations of the C.A.L.M. suicide prevention program overseeing registration logistics and program completion to ensure a good experience for participants.
5. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelors Degree in Nursing Public Health Recreation Psychology Health Education or related field
Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead supervise and motivate others ease in public speaking and commitment to excellence in all areas of education and provision of services ability to build and sustain effective collaboration with university and community partners.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work will take place in multiple campus and community sites with varying temperatures and accommodations; working some evenings/weekends are required; some travel is required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will potentially supervise graduate assistants student employees and student peer educators.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: lifting of boxes and materials of up to 50 pounds
