Description

The Thompson Rivers University Library is seeking a tenuretrack Law and Indigenous Services Librarian. This position will be responsible for building relationships and services to support Thompson Rivers Universitys Indigenous Students and Faculty and to support library services to the Faculty of Law. We expect that the specific work included in this position will be developed by the successful candidate in collaboration with campus partners especially in Indigenous Education the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching and the Faculty of Student Development. The incumbent will have a demonstrated record of building trust and relationships with Indigenous community members and will advise on librarywide decolonization and reconciliation initiatives.

This position situated on the traditional lands of the Tkemlps te Secwpemc within Secwpemculucw the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwpemc is located at the main TRU Kamloops campus and may include service to the Williams Lake Campus on the lands the Texelc within Secwpemculucw the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwpemc.

The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of library professionals and will actively participate in helping the library to achieve its vision mission values and goals. As a faculty member the candidate will actively pursue professional and service activities to meet library and campuswide criteria for tenure and promotion.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Library Science/Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated effective oral written and interpersonal communication skills in an English language workplace.
  • Demonstrated record of building trust and relationships with Indigenous students or community members
  • Ability to deliver instruction sessions and workshops and to create educational materials in a variety of formats
  • Demonstrated commitment to decolonization Indigenization and reconciliation
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable working teaching and learning environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sustained connection to an Indigenous community or context
  • Prior experience conducting legal research working with legal citation or delivering library services to law students
  • Basic knowledge with Secwepemctsn or other Indigenous language
