Job Summary: The Roadway Maintenance Lead will oversee the daily operations of roadway maintenance ensuring the safe efficient and timely repair and upkeep of roadways and associated infrastructure. This position requires indepth knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standards and procedures and expertise in Traffic Control Plans (TTC). The lead will supervise a team of maintenance staff manage work schedules and ensure all work complies with safety regulations and quality standards. Key Responsibilities: - Supervision and Leadership:
- Lead and supervise a team of roadway maintenance workers ensuring that tasks are performed efficiently safely and to the highest standards.
- Provide guidance and training to staff in roadway maintenance techniques safety procedures and FDOT regulations.
- Develop and manage work schedules ensuring timely completion of all maintenance tasks.
- Roadway Maintenance Operations:
- Oversee the repair and maintenance of roadways including patching guardrailsignage and drainage systems.
- Inspect and assess the condition of roadways and infrastructure identifying areas requiring attention or improvement.
- Operate and maintain equipment used for roadway maintenance ensuring proper operation and safety.
- Traffic Control Plan (TTC) Implementation:
- Develop review and implement Traffic Control Plans (TTC) in compliance with FDOT guidelines for various maintenance and construction projects.
- Ensure proper setup and maintenance of traffic control devices including signs barriers cones and detour routes to ensure the safety of workers and the public.
- Train staff in safe traffic control procedures and monitor adherence during maintenance activities.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all work is performed following FDOT standards local regulations and safety protocols.
- Enforce the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety measures during maintenance activities.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and safety meetings to maintain a culture of safety on job sites.
- Project Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of work performed including daily logs project updates and material usage.
- Prepare and submit reports to supervisors and stakeholders on project status safety compliance and road conditions.
- Coordinate with other departments or contractors as needed to ensure work is completed on time and within budget.
- Emergency Response and Roadway Incident Management:
- Lead emergency response efforts for roadway incidents including accidents debris removal and hazardous material spills.
- Ensure appropriate traffic management is in place during emergency events to protect public safety and minimize disruption.
Qualifications: - Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelors degree in civil engineering construction management or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in roadway maintenance construction or a related field with at least 1 years in a leadership role.
- Extensive experience with FDOT standards regulations and construction processes.
- Strong knowledge of Traffic Control Plans (TTC) and safety procedures in roadway maintenance.
- Certifications:
- Valid Florida drivers license (Class A or B CDL preferred).
- Florida Work Zone Traffic Control (TTC) certification or equivalent.
- OSHA 10 or 30hour certification in construction safety preferred.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret FDOT specifications drawings and traffic control plans.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with team members supervisors and the public.
- Proficient in the use of standard maintenance equipment (e.g. backhoes graders trucks etc. and tools.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks related to roadway maintenance.
Working Conditions: - This position requires work in the field including exposure to adverse weather conditions and hazardous traffic environments.
- Flexibility in work hours including nights weekends or holidays may be required for certain projects or emergencies.
- Occasional travel to different work sites may be required.
