Job Summary

The Student Success Scholar plays a pivotal role in supporting the colleges commitment to academic excellence and the enhancement of the overall student experience within Student Affairs. Working closely with the Manager of Student Insight and other professionals in Strategic Initiatives and Assessment as well as in partnership with stakeholders within the division the Student Success Scholar actively contributes to the assessment and continuous improvement initiatives across various cocurricular and extracurricular areas within Student Affairs. This role supports studentcentered assessment and continuous improvement initiatives through collecting and analyzing qualitative data facilitating student focus groups surveys and interviews and providing crucial feedback on institutional programs and technologies.

This position is only open to students with Federal Work Study eligibility.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Job Duties consists of:

  • Engage in assessment projects and continuous improvement initiatives led by the Manager of Student Insight in collaboration with various departments in Student Affairs
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders to design assessment plans and methodologies
  • Facilitate and conduct student surveys student focus group discussions student interviews
  • Participate in or conduct student feedback sessions regarding past and current programs initiatives and studentfacing technologies
  • Collect and analyze qualitative data to assess student learning outcomes and program/ initiative effectiveness.
  • Prepare detailed and insightful reports summarizing assessment findings.
  • Communicate results to stakeholders highlighting key areas for improvement.
  • Stay abreast of current trends and best practices in assessment and continuous improvement.
  • Attend relevant workshops conferences and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to peers involved in assessment projects.
  • Use data visualization techniques and tools to present data to various stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing dashboards and reports for effective communication.
  • Collaborate with student groups to understand their perspectives on continuous improvement
  • Utilize computer systems software to log student contact data and to complete other projects and job functions .Keeps accurate records and maintains confidential and sensitive information.
  • Attends training monthly meetings and workshops as assigned.
  • Assist with administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of: excellent customer service webbased software interfaces frequently used by students at Columbus State such as CougarWeb SelfService Starfish Blackboard social media platforms and available campus resources and programs within Student Affairs.

Skill in: customer service communication and interpersonal skills qualitative data collection and analysis interview data visualizations dashboards and reports.

Ability to: work collaboratively with fellow students and various departments within Student Affairs communicate effectively with fellow students and other stakeholders through the use of email social media and other platforms; assist with assessment planning; schedule and facilitate student feedback sessions focus groups surveys and interviews; create data dashboards and visual and/or written reports; assist with event planning and coordination. Proficiency in data analytics assessment tools and software is a plus.

Applicants must also demonstrate interest in assessment and continuous improvement efforts by the college that are related to overall student experience and satisfaction.

Minimum/General Qualifications:

This position requires applicants to have Federal Work Study as part of their current Financial Aid package with Columbus State. You must also be enrolled in SIX or more credit hours in a degree or certificate program. Visit for a full explanation of eligibility requirements or visit Nestor Hall 113 to request Federal Work Study if you were not awarded it already. Any applicants without Federal Work Study eligibility will not be considered for this position.

Applicants must have received a high school diploma or a certificate of attendance from an accredited secondary school or a certificate of high school equivalence and be exempt from Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4109.

Must have reliable transportation or other means to get to work regularly.

Students enrolled as Transient College Credit Plus Undecided or otherwise nondegreeseeking are not considered eligible for Student Employment.

Schedule:

TBD by the needs of department and student schedule between office hours of Monday Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Maximum 20 hours per week.

Work will be performed: OnSite only.

CSTATE GROW (Guided Reflections on Work)

The program consists of brief structured conversations between supervisor and student to reflect on and integrate what they are learning. All student employees and their functional supervisors participate in this program during Autumn and Spring semesters.

Career and Leadership Development Program (CLDP)

The program consists of paid competencybased career and leadership development activities designed by Career Services. All Tier/Level III positions are automatically enrolled in this program.
