Job Description

Under the general direction of the Director of Athletics and Head Coach the Graduate Assistant for Womens Volleyball will assist the head coach in recruiting qualified studentathletes to the program instruct and develop the studentathlete in the sport of volleyball game preparation and community involvement. Instruction should include but not limited to the rules strategies and techniques relating to practice and competition in this sport. The Graduate Assistant will also support the mission and goals of the Athletic Department.

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Coaching Instruction and Team Administration 60

  • Assist the head coach to organize and conduct practices during the traditional season (as defined by the National Collegiate Athletic Association) for the sport. Nontraditional (or outofseason) season practices may be required;
  • Assist the Head coach to serve as the representative of the department and the College during team travel for in and outofseason competition;
  • Assist the head coach in the management of operational budget issues: Participate in uniform and equipment purchase process; help plan and coordinate team travel under the supervision of the Director of Athletics Office; help develop and implement fundraising strategies;
  • Assist the Head coach in completing inand offseason scheduling for the program. Work within NCAA guidelines regarding the start of the season dates of competition and end of the season;
  • Ability to represent the Department of Athletics at all oncampus Admissions Open Houses and/or other predetermined events;

Recruiting 30

  • Assist the Head coach in developing a recruiting strategy to achieve recruiting goals as preapproved by the Director of Athletics.
  • Work with the Head Coach and Office of Admission to recruit qualified prospective studentathletes both incoming freshmen and transfers to Hood College. Included are offcampus contacts and evaluations as well as serving as a College representative during oncampus prospect visits.

Site management 10

  • Represent the Department of Athletics at selected home athletic events.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.   • Proven integrity leadership and a thorough knowledge of volleyball are required.
  • Candidate should possess a strong commitment and ability to motivate teach counsel and recruit academically qualified studentathletes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students coaches college administrators and parents.
  • High level of independence and organization is required.
  • Available for weekends evenings spring/fall breaks and early morning practices and events.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.

Education

Bachelors degree and full acceptance into one of Hood Colleges graduate programs are required. Proven successful coaching with 23 years experience preferred preferably at the collegiate level or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations is preferred.

Technology Skills

Computer proficient in Microsoft Office Suite such as Microsoft Word Excel with the internet and email. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organizationwide information systems and departmentspecific software applications.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret medical documents and NCAA guidelines. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students parents or others. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by to develop marketing or promotional materials.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts timely and accurately either manually by using a calculator. Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form. Ability to hypothesize draw conclusions and support conclusions. Ability to work in the theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.

Compensation

The compensation for Athletic Graduate Assistants consists of a $3000 annual stipend a tuition waiver for up to 18 credits per year campus housing and a meal plan. This temporary position is not benefitseligible except for paid Maryland sick leave. Learn more about Hood College.
