BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The World Food Programmes (WFPs) Strategy for Support to Social Protection envisions that By 2030 people will have substantially increased access to national social protection systems that safeguard and foster their ability to meet their food security nutrition and associated essential needs and to manage the risks and shocks they face. An important part of delivering on that vision is to generate evidence on what works to make WFPs vast social protection knowledge explicit and to interpret and communicate findings internally and externally in a way that is relevant for effective uptake.

Social protection is an increasingly relevant strategy for governments to reduce extreme poverty as well as various forms of hunger and inequality. Virtually every country in the world has at least one social protection scheme in place and 3.7 billion people are already covered by a statutory cash benefit.
As a global leader in fighting hunger and malnutrition worldwide often in very difficult contexts WFP is increasingly called upon by governments to support national social protection systems and programmes. We work with governments and partners to extend the coverage comprehensiveness adequacy and quality of social protection with the aim of ensuring that more people have access to strong national social protection systems that help them to meet their food security nutrition and associated essential needs; and manage the risks and shocks they face. In 2023 WFP partnered with governments in 98 countries to support national social protection making this an integral part of WFPs activities in most of the countries where it operates.

Job purpose
This Social Protection Junior Consultant will be placed within the Social Protection Unit in the PPGS service under the guidance and supervision of the Programme Policy Officer. The consultant will ensure the operational implementation of strategic initiatives and evidence generation.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
General support to strategic initiatives on social protection research and evidence generation

In consultation with the thematic leads in the Social Protection Unit design plan and carry out evidence generation for social protection.

Support the identification of key external events of relevance to position and communicate WFPs work and agenda in social protection.

Support WFP global headquarters and country offices with their communications and advocacy on social protection for governments donors and strategic partners.

Increase social protections internal visibility and communicate the rationale behind and the impact of WFPs engagement in social protection.

Work closely with internal and 3rd party vendors such as contracted graphics designers video editors etc

Under the guidance of relevant thematic leads support other knowledge management initiatives as required including evidence generation and research on social protection issues.
Focus on knowledge management for social protection to enhance food security and nutrition outcomes

In consultation with relevant thematic leads develop (and support the creative dissemination of) innovative and clear evidencebased resources to raise awareness around social protections contribution to food security and nutrition outcomes.

Creatively disseminate and adapt WFPs research and knowledge products on social protection and food security and nutrition to enhance their outreach using innovative engaging modalities from inception to evaluation to share and convey technical content in a userfriendly and humancentred fashion.

Support interagency communications and coordination efforts and initiatives on the contribution of social protection to food security and nutrition such as the Universal Social Protection 2030 Global Partnership UN Food Systems Summit the Committee on World Food Security etc.

Support the alignment and coordination between WFPs social protection school meals nutrition climate and resilience emergency and preparedness partnerships and communication and media teams in the development of key initiatives strategic plans materials and social media campaigns.
QUALIFICATIONS and EXERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
Advanced University degree in Public Policy Public Administration International Development International Relations Sociology Communications Journalism Marketing or other fields relevant to social protection and communications and advocacy.

Experience:
At least one year of professional experience with:

International development humanitarian action public policy and/or social protection.

Information and content management research and evidence generation communications and advocacy and/or learning and capacity building.
Knowledge & Skills:

Knowledge of current thinking and developments in the field of social protection and public policy.

Familiarity with key debates and approaches in food security and nutrition and in social protection.

Demonstrated ability to produce highquality written outputs and ability to present in English.

Ability to produce materials at speed targeted to meet the needs of different audiences.

Ability to develop coordinate and maintain professional relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

Able to plan multitask and function effectively in a fastpaced environment. Experience undertaking qualitative research with a proven command of different research methodologies.

Digitally savvy and knowledgeable about the contemporary state of social media and online platforms.

Ability to translate a range of inputs from a large community into fixes and improvements that a development team can understand.

Ability to travel.

Excellent communication skills and proven ability in creative systems and/or design thinking is an asset.

Proficiency in MS Office (Word Excel Power Point Outlook).

Proficiency in MS Publisher Canva In Design and/or Photoshop is highly desirable.

Proficiency in instructional design and pedagogy is highly desirable.
