Job Description
Job Title: Substitute Teacher
Reports to: Principal
Purpose Statement: The job of Substitute is done for the purpose/s of supporting instruction supervising students and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher or paraprofessional.
Essential Functions:
- Facilitate classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans for the purpose of improving student success in academics.
- Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom playground hallway etc. for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned for the purpose of providing an orderly classroom and a positive learning environment.
- Remains at school the entire school day unless otherwise instructed to leave by building principal for the purpose of supporting building needs.
- Reports incidents (e.g. disagreements suspected child abuse injuries etc. for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students providing a positive learning environment and adhering to school policies and procedures.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated for the purpose of meeting needs throughout the Carthage R9 School District.
- Responsible for the same legal and procedural responsibilities as regular classroom teacher or paraprofessional.
Other Functions
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple highly complex tasks. Specific skillsbased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; reading analyzing and interpreting lesson plans technical procedures and textbooks; and analyzing situations to define issues and draw conclusion. Specific knowledgebased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include appropriate policies procedures regulations and/or laws; and behavior management strategies.
ABILITY is required to work with others and to use jobrelated equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; operate equipment using standardized methods; work with a diverse individuals and groups. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Specific abilitybased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: establishing and maintaining positive and appropriate relationships; adapting to changing work priorities; maintaining confidentiality; and exhibiting tack and patience.

High school diploma or equivalent
Certificates/Licenses
Valid substitute certificate issued by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
Certification requirements are available by visiting Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

Working Environment
Some lifting (up to 15 pounds at times) carrying pushing and/or pulling stooping kneeling crouching and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally this job requires prolonged periods of sitting 10 40 walking and 50 standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
