Position purpose:

Reporting to the Manager Pension Plans the incumbent is responsible for calculating retirement benefits pension monthly payment activations and generating other reports or statements pertaining to pension plan administration.

Provides information to plan members about their rights and responsibilities with respect to the pension plan and responds to inquiries or complaints. Produces and analyses the monthly benefit payments yearend reconciliations and prepares information for the financial statements for approval by the Pension Plans Team Leader and for wider use by other members of the pension team in their functions.

Prepares and submits all monthly payment and lump sum payment authorizations to the Plan Trustee and prepares analysis and financial reports or statements pertaining to pension plan administration.

Ensures effective administration of pension plan enrolment in accordance with the Pension Plan text collective agreements administrative policies and related legislation and regulations.

Provides a high level of customer service with diplomacy compassion tact efficiency and flexibility in order to better serve the needs of a challenging clientele.

Supports various projects initiatives and daily and annual activities of the pension sector by ensuring that the necessary information materials logistical details and records are accurate and timely.

In this role your responsibilities will include:

Pension Plan Administrative system (pension payment interfaces and retired members information):

  • Responsible to prepare and complete all transaction activities relating to monthly payment requests and ensures accurate processing of monthly interfaces with the Pension Plan Trustee in accordance with strict legislated deadlines established service standards procedures and policies.
  • Administers analyses and controls change to pension data and personal information pertaining to retirees and survivors/beneficiaries life events (marriage marriage breakdown death dependent child etc.. Communicates changes and/or corrections to the Plan Trustee in a timely manner.
  • Identifies irregularities technical issues systemic problems and addresses or escalates issues by working in close collaboration with the Senior pension specialists and the Pension management system Administrator.

Pension Plan Administration Retirement and death benefits and retirees group insurance coverage:

  • Calculates retirement pension benefit entitlements and prepares statements resulting from various events that may contain complex mathematical calculations (retirement death divorce transfer etc. in accordance with the Pension Plan text Pension Regulations and Tax Legislation for all members of the pension plan. financial institutions..
  • Determines eligibility and calculates death and survivor pension benefits.
  • Calculates and administers retired members Life Insurance.

Administer enrolment:

  • Confirms and processes employees enrolment.

Administrative support:

  • Provides to operational needs and a high level of customer service with members employers insurance carriers and pension trustee regarding pension and benefit entitlements administration procedures or interpretations of plan provisions.
  • Revises and maintains an effective procedures and records management system to preserve the confidentiality of the records in compliance with applicable privacy laws (FIPPA) and University policies and procedures.
  • Controls data accuracy by performing various audits reconciliations and quality control checks to detect any anomalies that may result in financial repercussions for members the pension plans and/or the credibility of the University.

What you will bring:

  • Knowledge and experience relating to defined benefit pension plans and defined contribution pension plans human resources administration group benefits administration finance or related fields acquired through postsecondary education (college or university degree) or equivalent experience.
  • Accreditations in Pension Plan Administration Certificate (PPAC) Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) or other related Human Resource certifications will be considered an asset.
  • 2 to 3 years experience in the administration of pension benefits and in performing related financial activities.
  • Experience in the application of laws and regulations governing pension plans in Ontario (e.g. Canada Revenue Agency Pension Benefits Act of Ontario Family Law etc. regulations and policies of the University as well as the administration of collective agreements.
  • Experience giving smallgroup presentations.
  • Experience in using integrated human resource computer systems and software programs such as spreadsheets and databases.
  • Strong communication interpersonal analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail effective time management skills and sound organizational skills
  • Initiative autonomy excellent judgment; selfstarting and selfmotivated; flexibility and adaptability.
  • Ability to organize while multitasking with strict legislated deadlines.
  • Tact diplomacy respect for confidentiality and ability to maintain proactive and effective service orientation and awareness of and sensitivity to diversity.
  • Bilingualism French and English (spoken and written).
