Help us help others:

Hill Country MHDD Centers partners with local institutions of higher education to provide volunteer internship opportunities for individuals pursuing careers in the behavioral health field particularly those interested in acquiring experience in a community mental health setting.

Volunteer/Intern candidates must complete the Hill Country MHDD Centers application process complete the interview process and upon recommendation for placement complete a full background check fingerprinting TB test.

Volunteer Interns are expected to be flexible in their assigned responsibilities and assist the agency in other roles as needed as allowable. Office hours are 7:30 am 6:00 pm; however flexible hours are essential in accommodating the work schedules of the individuals we serve.

You will get to:

Under the professional guidance of a Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA) Interns will perform indirect/administrative and direct/clinical mental health services with children and adults including but not limited to:

  • Behavioral health screenings
  • Behavioral health assessments
  • Serves as a liaison/care navigator between individuals in service their families and the community to coordinate and provide rehabilitative and therapeutic treatment
  • Completing traumainformed person and familycentered treatment planning
  • Individual counseling Group counseling Crisis counseling or Substance abuse counseling
  • Facilitate/Cofacilitate aftercare groups for recent inpatient crisis hospitalization
  • Assist with special issues identified for individuals discharging from inpatient hospitalization such as CPS involvement homelessness cooccurring substance abusehistory of noncompliance and rapid deterioration jail discharges)
  • Documenting all contacts and services provided
  • Engage in treatment team meetings
  • Participate in weekly individual and group supervision meetings

Qualifications

Youll definitely need:

  • Participation or completion of a Masters program related to behavioral health services (Psychology Counseling Marriage and Family Therapy Social Work)
  • Engaged in Practicum Course at Masters level Pregraduate coursework in behavioral health program. Agreement between Hill Country MHDD Center and the appropriate university
  • Master Level Course Completion with Associate Licensure Postgraduate completion of masters degree in Counseling Marriage & Family or Social Work and Supervision Agreement between Hill Country MHDD Center and licensed intern/associate.

Well also want you to:

  • Promote and maintain a Trauma Informed Person Centered environment for all clientele and staff.
  • Provide appropriate therapy to children adolescents and adults either individually or in a group/family format.
  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial intake assessments to determine the need for mental health services
  • Complete ongoing assessments as needed.
  • Ensure all individuals have a current PersonCentered Recovery Plan (PCRP) that includes counseling as an intervention.
  • Participates in development of PCRP with assigned Recovery Coach or develops PCRP when appropriate.
  • Does collaborative and concurrent documentation for therapy and assessments at least 95 of the time.
  • Documents all services to include kept appointments noshows cancellations by individuals and self.
  • Assures quality service for all clients by enforcing rules; regulations and legal requirements with clients; documenting the events of a therapeutic process in a confidential manner.
  • Participate in professional trainings (priority is CBT CPT and TFCBT) and staff development trainings.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings case conferences interdisciplinary team meetings and individual/group supervision.
  • Guards client confidentiality by being knowledgeable of and adhering to HIPPA regulations.
  • Adhere to all Hill Country MHDD policies and procedures.
