JOB DESCRIPTION

The Atlanta office of Alston & Bird is seeking a tax specialist. This position under the direction of the Director of Accounting & Tax and tax managers will perform a variety of duties including: 1 preparation of monthly and quarterly VAT compliance forms and schedules 2 engaging in international tax planning and compliance for firms international operations 3 preparation and review of federal state and international income tax calculations and 4 preparation and review of property use gross receipts etc. tax calculations and returns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist with monthly / quarterly VAT compliance;
  • Assist with international tax compliance including expat and inpat (secondment) planning and Pillar 2 compliance;
  • Assist with reviewing Firm federal international and state tax returns including partner federal international and state K1 forms;
  • Assist with monthly federal and state tax withholding as well as yearend bonus and final distribution tax calculations for both domestic and international partners;
  • Assist with preparation of quarterly withholding and tax estimates and remittance of estimated payments;
  • Assist with preparation of the Firms annual Tax Residency Certification;
  • Responding to partner (or partner financial or tax advisor) inquiries regarding federal and state Schedule K1s tax elections tax notices etc.;
  • Assist with the annual partner state tax elections process including answering questions form update coordination review and approving workflow;
  • Assist with various other taxes (use tax property tax returns 1099s) as needed;
  • Research tax issues or questions as needed. Communicate and document conclusions with Tax team;
  • Backup the Senior Tax Specialist or Tax Manager duties as needed.

SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills;
  • A strong command of the English language;
  • Ability to work independently and meet internal and external deadlines;
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately when preparing timesensitive projects;
  • The ability to effectively handle telephone calls / online meetings with established Firm etiquette and professionalism;
  • Work effectively with clients and other team members;
  • Organizational skills for prioritizing workload are required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • 24 years of relevant tax and/or accounting experience
  • Bachelors degree in accounting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite products (Advanced Excel Outlook and Word)
  • Proficiency in selected Adobe products (Acrobat Adobe Sign)

Preferred:

  • Value Added Tax (VAT) reporting and/or filing experience
  • International tax experience including knowledge of expat and inpat assignments
  • Federal and state tax reporting and/or filing experience
  • Experience with Workday Aderant Expert Chrome River Bloomberg Fixed Assets
