Job Description

POSITION TITLE:AtRisk Coordinator High School

EXEMPTION STATUS:Exempt

REPORTS TO:Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:per contractschool contract

Primary Purpose:

This is a State Compensatory Education funded position providing compensatory intensive and/or accelerated instruction to students identified as atrisk. Provide assistance for students and families to remove barriers in school readiness success and attendance. Coordinate and supervise efforts to work with atrisk students in danger of dropping out of school. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and academic experiences to help fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth and enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

Bachelors Degree preferred

Valid Texas Teacher Certificate preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to work with students staff and parents

Ability to interpret data

Familiarity with issues related to students atrisk of dropping out of school

Awareness and ability to access community agencies and organizations

Strong organizational communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

Ability to speak Spanish preferred

Experience

Experience working with atrisk students in education social work counseling or criminal justice

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Student Services

  • Assist principals and counselors in identifying atrisk students begin intervention plans and collaborate with parents.
  • Assist staff with individualized plan of instruction by conducting home visits to assure assignments are completed; and compile information to assist in intervention plan development for students and parents with the goal of improving attendance and making school a positive learning experience.
  • Maintain average daily attendance by monitoring daily absence reports; communicate with students parents and the district truancy administrator; and provide required reports to administrative staff.
  • Monitor grades of atrisk students coordinate with the counseling staff and supervise credit recovery programs as assigned.
  • Evaluate transcripts of students who are deficient in high school credits and assist counselors and other staff in developing graduation plans for atrisk students as needed.
  • Assist administrative and counseling staff with discipline management and counseling as needed.
  • Provide motivational support for successful completion of student goals and opportunities by encouraging student participation in extracurricular activities develop and manage a mentor program and recruit volunteers.
  • Assist in developing parent involvement activities link families to community services and assist with clothing supplies and personal items to meet academic standards.
  • Conduct classroom visits in reference to attendance behavior and academics as assigned.
  • Serve as an advocate and contact person for the student between the school and the home.
  • Serve as the campus contact for state compensatory education if designated by the principal.
  • Assist with preenrollment extracurricular and other activities as assigned.

  • Participate in professional development activities to improve jobrelated skills and demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  • Keep informed of and comply with polices and state district and school regulations.
  • Maintain familiarity with district initiatives to better serve the needs of students.

Communication

  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication and maintain a professional relationship with students parents colleagues and community members; and serve as a liaison for parents and school
  • Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the district and demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible as set out in the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard classroom equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting/standing frequent kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling twisting

Motion: Frequent walking; frequent repetitive hand motions keyboarding use of mouse wrist flexion/extension

Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance 3055 pounds with assistance and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance

Environment: Work inside and outside; occasional exposure to contagious diseases

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruption; work prolonged or irregular hours
