Job Description

Job Overview

The Middle School Dean assists the Principal in fulfilling his/her chief responsibility of promoting the educational well being of each student in the school and providing sound educational programs for children.

Roles and Responsibilities

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate.

  • Assists in interpreting school and Division programs policies and procedures to students parents staff and community under supervision of the Principal or designee.
  • Assists in the evaluation of licensed and classified staff members; assists marginal teachers; assists with problems of discipline.
  • Assists with special school programs or projects involving remedial at-risk and special education students.
  • Assists with supervision of students arriving at and leaving the school; assists with the supervision of students in the cafeteria.
  • Develops and maintains a positive communication system with the community teaching staff administration and School Board.
  • Helps with the supervision of custodial staff and providing substitutes for the school staff.
  • Assists with the review of interim reports special education enrollment reports log reports report cards and plan books

Qualifications

Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.

EducationHolds a Masters degree from an accredited college or university

ExperienceHas a minimum of three years of successful experience as a teacher administrator or supervisor

Licenses andCertifications Holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license with endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Possesses leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students parents teachers administrators and the community
  • Possesses strong communication writing and presentation skills which demonstrate the ability to assimilate analyze and present information clearly and concisely

Physical Requirements

The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this job:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly talking expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately loudly or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects.

Days/Hours: 207 Days/ 7 Hours
Licensed Salary Scale plus Stipend $1318
Salary Level: Licensed

Salary Scale: position is Only for One Year
