School District No. 42 (SD42 meets the learning needs of approximately 17000 students of all ages in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows and is defined by its determination to keep student learning and growth at the heart of all its decisions. With an annual budget of over $200M and over 2000 staff the school district provides K12 educational services in 22 elementary schools six secondary schools and two alternate schools. It also provides a variety of certificate programs and relevant quality lifelong learning opportunities through Ridge Meadows College and Continuing Education.
SD42 is looking for a qualified Elementary Support Teacher for a 1.0 FTE Temporary position at Highland Park Elementary School. This position is effective as soon as possible until June 30 2025; or return of incumbent. Prospective candidates for these positions must be willing to undergo a prescreening by Learning Services. Applicants should have the ability to work as part of a strong collaborative team and have excellent interpersonal communication and collaborative skills.
The applicant will possess:
- Certification with the Teacher Regulation Branch
- Successful teaching experience and coursework in special education that includes assessment adapting and modifying curriculum and teaching students with special needs
- A Degree or Diploma in special education would be preferred as would additional coursework in behaviour learning disabilities or other specific areas of special education and/or experience working with students with special needs
- The ability to design adapt and modify curriculum; write implement and evaluate positive behaviour support plans and strategies as well as IEPs; conduct assessment (including Level B tests); teach function life skills; use technology to support student needs; and to coordinate and facilitate the work of Education Assistants.
