Position Summary

Salary: $16218 $20575 / quarter basedepending on experience & education (this position is eligible for additional High Demand Supplemental Salary)

(Per quarter salary calculation:Base multiplied by class load ex.: $20575 base * 50 teaching load approx. $10287.50

JOB SUMMARY
The Shoreline Community College Dental Hygiene Program is located at the University of Washington School of Dentistry 1959 NW Pacific Street Seattle WA 98195and has the following features:

Nationally accredited:Accreditation by American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)

Faculty experts:Instructors have a combined 200 years of experience working as hygienists and dentists

Handson training: Students gain realworld clinical experience at the
dental hygiene clinic at the University of Washington School of Dentistry

The work duties of the Dental Hygiene Instructors may include clinical and preclinical courses including teaching skills in local anesthesia restorative dentistry and radiology. In addition to teaching the successful candidate may advise students assist with assessment of current instructional methods develop programs and curricula and participate in Shoreline governance department division and campusrelated professional activities. Required Education & Experience:


Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of Dental Hygiene
  • Adapting to a variety of teaching situations including working effectively in both the classroom and other teaching environments and an ability/willingness to teach in more than one area of the program curriculum
  • Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online
  • Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
  • Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
  • Working and interacting effectively with colleagues staff students administrators and others of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Handling difficult of sensitive situations using sound independent judgment within legal guidelines
  • Incorporating a variety of creative teaching methods to address different learning styles
  • Relating and inspiring students ranging from reaching out to those students in need of help to challenging the best students

Conditions of Employment

Physical Work Environment:
Work is usually performed in a clinic laboratory or classroom space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Instructors use appropriate PPE as well as computers and media equipment in the work environment.

Terms of Employment/Salary:
This is a parttime nontenured quartertoquarter assignment. Salary is dependent upon the number of contact hours for this assignment as provided in the agreement with the Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
