Job Description

Position: Secondary Summer School Principal

Reports to: Deputy Superintendent

Salary: Stipend

Objective:

To facilitate development implementation and evolution of curricular instructional and

personnel functions of summer school in order to continually improve student performance.

Qualifications:

  • Texas Principal/Administrator Certification
  • Minimum of 2 years secondary administrative and supervisory experience (preferred)
  • Masters degree
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience

General Responsibilities:

  • Input or retrieve data effectively and efficiently in a userfriendly manner
  • Leads all phases of instructional programs.
  • Communicates and interacts effectively with a variety of audiences
  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate
  • Confers with staff students and community members on summer school problems and needs
  • Works with district curriculum and learning office on longrange summer school planning
  • Acts as liaison to the community in relation to summer school activities and interprets summer school program to community members
  • Maintains relations with parents parent groups school volunteers and outside agencies as appropriate
  • Represents the summer school system at professional meetings as appropriate
  • Prepares and submits the summer school budget and monitors expenditure of summer school funds
  • Serves as a member of summer school committees and attends such meetings as directed by the deputy superintendent
  • Reviews budget requests and program proposals for summer school
  • Proposes to the district office which activities will be funded during the coming summer school year
  • Interprets and enforces district policies
  • Assigns summer school personnel
  • Evaluates summer school personnel
  • Supervises summer school staff members
  • Observes the inclass performance of summer school teachers and confers andconsults with summer school teachers as appropriate
  • Recognizes and celebrates accomplishments of colleagues and students as appropriate
  • Articulates a clear vision for quality teaching and learning
  • Aligns the curriculum and instructional programming with the schools or districts mission vision and values
  • Develops meaningful goals and action plans for the summer school session
  • Effectively distributes leadership responsibilities to peers
  • Promotes high expectations for all faculty and staff
  • Upholds a professional standard of personal conduct
  • Promotes the effective use of instructional technology
  • Aligns the assessment program to the districts and/or schools curriculum
  • Monitors the effectiveness of the school or districts assessment programming for alllevels of student ability
  • Provides constructive feedback
  • Projects a demeanor that is welcoming supportive and engaging
  • Is an effective leader
  • Collaborates with administration and faculty when developing goals
  • Is accessible to faculty staff etc.
  • Implements efficient administrative procedures to support the teaching and learning functions of the summer school program
  • Manages school operations (e.g. staffing budgeting and compliance)
  • Assumes responsibility for the implementation of policies
  • Directs effectively the activities of employees in the school to ensure continuing operations
  • Allocates the necessary financial and physical resources to support the accomplishment of goals
  • Generates enthusiasm for the collaborative efforts of our school

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand walk sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is continuously interacting with the public staff and students. The employee frequently must meet multiple demands from several people. The employee is regularly required to sit and stand. The employee is required to walk; use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Occasionally the employee must use hand/grip strength to operate office equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is required to regularly interact with the students staff and the public. Work must be performed onsite.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District procedures on administrative evaluation.
