Position Summary:
The Facility Engineer under the supervision of the Facility Manager is responsible for the safe and reliable operation preventative maintenance and corrective repair of infrastructure & systems in support of the smooth and efficient operation of Orchestra Hall.

Essential Functions:
Energy Management System (BAS)
- Programs and monitors the buildings energy management system.
- Schedules weekly programming for events to meet heating cooling ventilation and electrical needs.
- Monitor system components perform repairs and implement upgrades in line with building modifications.
Preventive Maintenance & Repair
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs.
- Monitor and assess mechanical and electrical equipment performance recommending repairs or replacements as needed.
- Conduct periodic inspections lubrication and adjustments to prevent breakdowns.
- Diagnose and repair equipment issues efficiently including but not limited to mechanical plumbing electrical fire & life safety systems roofing snow equipment coolers and ice machines.
- Assist with construction and renovation projects.
Event Support
- Ensure adequate mechanical and electrical provisions for special events.
- Provide technical insights on facility to enforce load capacities and code requirements.
Vendor & Supply Management
- Helps coordinate access and assists contractors and vendors.
- Maintain updated records of manufacturers vendors and contractors for supplies and equipment.
- Research and source quality supplies parts and services at the best price.
Operational Logs & Documentation
- Maintain daily logs for mechanical and electrical system operations including energy usage.
- Update and organize building plans blueprints specifications and maintenance manuals.
OnCall Support for Events
- Coordinated with the Facilities Manager provides additional oncall support during scheduled weekend and evening hours to respond to heating or cooling requests during events and concerts.
- Assist with snow removal as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications Skills and Abilities:
- 35 years of experience in building maintenance and/or facilities engineering. Experience in a performing arts or similar facility preferred but not required.
- Bachelors degree in engineering (e.g. mechanical electrical architectural) or equivalent combination of education (e.g. 2year technical degree in a related field) or training and handson experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Must have strong maintenance skill/knowledge of plumbing carpentry (wood and metal) painting electrical (single phase 120v through three phase 480v).
- Demonstrated aptitude for analyzing prints technical specifications and other data
- Demonstrated ability to perform both routine and emergencyresponse duties involving use of various procedures and standard practices that require decision making and use of judgment as to the method.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively present ideas and deliverables to internal stakeholders external suppliers vendors or other entities
- Ability to collaborate with others to identify and solve issues or make proactive recommendations
Technology/Equipment:
- Proficiency in MS Office suite Excel Word Outlook PowerPoint and Teams
- Proficient with hand and power tools
- Knowledge or familiarity with the following programs and equipment preferred
- BAS (Building Automation Systems) Niagara
- Fire & Life safety equipment Siemens
- Lighting systems Lutron
- CMMS programs
Work Environment and Physical and Mental Demands:
The Minnesota Orchestra is primarily a placebased organization offering hybrid schedules that require some inperson onsite work.
While performing the duties of this position incumbents may be required to do all or some of the following with or without accommodation:
- Sit or stand at a desk counter or other work surface
- Talk and/or hear spoken words music or other sounds
- Use hands or fingers to handle or touch objects around them
- Review documents monitors or displays with potentially small print
- Operate a computer phone and other common office tools or controls
- Mentally focus on tasks and apply sound reasoning and judgement
- Work in or attend meetings or other events in any of the Orchestra locations or other sites as necessary
- Standing climbing balancing walking sitting stooping crouching and kneeling in confined spaces.
- Occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds of force to lift push and pull objects without assistance. With assistance exert more than 50 pounds of force to occasionally lift push and pull objects.
The typical workdays and hours for the organization are Monday Friday 8:00 am 5:00 pm with potential for extended evening weekend or holiday hours if required by the performance schedule.
