About the position

The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT is looking for a highly skilled Assistant II support B4WE program in Bukavu working closely with Research Team Leader to support management of program activities. The position will be fulltime in presence and based in Bukavu(Congo).

Key duties & responsibilities
  • Manage requests for support between the various research teams of the program and the administrative support units (HR Africa PLANS Africa Legal GMU etc.)Provide logistical and administrative support during visits courses workshops and events
  • Assist the B4WE team Leader and various principal Investigators on program coordination on a daily basis.
  • Assist the program in the preparation of project budget estimates by analyzing and monitoring the situation of resources as compared to planned activities.
  • Assist with preparation of recurring reports as scheduled maintaining and updating spreadsheets and databases for internal control purposes.
  • Support the B4WE Program and workplans and partners budget development
  • Assist with organizing B4WE partners workshops.
  • Assist the team leader with collecting/obtaining information on partners to facilitate processing of partners contracts.
  • Raise and follow up on supply and service requisitions maintaining constant communication with logistics/procurement and requesters.
  • Assist in program document management.
  • Provide support in daily administrative tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in business management and administration with experience working in interdisciplinary programs related to agriculture environment and development studies.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience with proven capacity for administration/procurement management coordination of partners activities basic knowledge of budget management and external engagement with partners.
  • Experience with financial management and designing and managing budgets.
  • Professional exposure to an international institutional/program setting including multicultural and interdisciplinary working environment.
  • Excellent English and French communication skills both written and oral for diverse audiences including technical specialists and decision/policymakers.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills including Word Power Point and Excel.
  • Proof of outstanding communication skills to be applied in dialogues with a wide array of actors such as international organization representatives members of national governments members research and private sector representatives experts and farmers.
  • Collaborative yet entrepreneurial with demonstrated interest in agricultural development in Africa and the ability to provide thought leadership on a range of agricultural development challenges.

Terms of employment

This is a nationally recruited position based in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Bukavu. The initial contract will be for one 1 year subject to a probation period of three 3 months and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.


This position is graded at BG05 level (on a scale of 14 levels BG 014 being the highest level). We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits including but not limited to insurance retirement plan staff training and development paid time off and flexible working arrangements.
