Job Description

The University of Nevada Reno Office of Marketing and Communications seeks candidates for a Senior Manager of Web position reports to the Senior Director of Web and Digital Strategy.

The Senior Manager of Web Development is responsible for the design development and improvement of existing and future web applications and site projects for the University of Nevada Reno. The Senior Manager serves as the lead web application developer on dynamic important projects for the Office of Marketing and Communications and for the University.

The Senior Manager is responsible for devising and implementing technical solutions for the Universitys content management system (CMS) as well as proprietary and thirdparty applications. The Senior Manager provides leadership direction and mentoring to junior staff and student workers.

Technical and Content Management

  • Serve as primary administrator of the Universitys content management system and related thirdparty applications

  • Act as liaison between the Office of Marketing and Communications and other information technology professionals on campus

  • Provide support and deployment of web applications for our online contentrich properties

  • Manage the coding unit testing and general quality assurance of web applications

  • Manage and administer University Website using web publishing software

  • Work collaboratively with Information Technology for compliance with University technology standards

Accessibility

  • Provide support and development of accessible web applications and assets

  • Develop University policy and procedures regarding web accessibility and web governance

  • Develop and manage University accessibility standards

  • Monitor accessibility of web content across multiple University domains

  • Coordinate with division and college accessibility coordinators the audit of University web pages and assets

Project Management

  • Work in a production environment performing requirement analysis and highlevel design

  • Be the primary participant in the advance planning and brainstorming and project design

  • Participate as assigned in meetings with university stakeholders to assess marketing and communications needs and help provide advice about possible solutions

  • Participate in crossfunctional teams and understand the varying needs of department faculty and Communication team members working with project managers to prioritize development tasks and meeting the objectives and goals of each project

  • Identify and understand the varying needs of individual college units and Communication team members

  • Prioritize development of tasks and meet the objectives and goals of each project

  • Solve technical problems and handle performance/scalability issues on a daytoday basis

Research and Development

  • Perform requirements analysis highlevel design effort estimation for new business requirements and feature enhancements

  • Participate in design discussions with business users web producers and engineering teams

  • Design develop and support studentfacing web applications

  • Design develop and support a faculty/staff web application

  • Write clean concise and sustainable code

  • Write documentation

  • Solve technical challenges on a daytoday basis and build applications for scalability and performance

  • Development and maintenance of a Faculty/Staff web template for personal websites

Team Management

  • Manage assigned developers for projects

  • Delegate duties and reprioritize development tasks as required to meet project deadlines

  • Communicate and participate in business discussions with business users and product managers

  • Coordinate and track workflow schedules and projects for team

  • Train student workers on design and development best practices

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree and five years of related professional work experience; OR

Masters degree and three years of related professional work experience.

Related Experience:

Professional progressively responsible experience in web design development and maintenance.

Compensation Grade

Compensation Grade C

Salary is based on related education and experience internal equity and budgets.
