Job Description

THE POSITION

Are you interested in a career where you have the opportunity to work with a proactive dedicated team of preservationists historians and archaeologists If so consider joining the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) Preservation Support Division as the Pennsylvania Archaeological Site Survey Coordinator. This position allows you to utilize your experience as you oversee the Pennsylvania Archaeological Site Survey program (PASS). Our goal is to maintain the integrity of archaeological sites and survey information in the SHPO data management system (PASHARE) in order to assist the SHPO other agencies and the public in evaluating the archaeological resources within the Commonwealth. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As the Pennsylvania Archaeological Site Survey Coordinator you will be responsible for developing processing and managing records pertaining to archaeological historic properties. This includes public outreach and the promotion and facilitation of new archaeological surveys and site recordation research and evaluation with the goal of maintaining the integrity of archaeological site and survey information in the SHPO data management system (PASHARE). You will have the opportunity to provide information and assistance to citizens and agencies involved in the identification and survey of archaeological resources. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Providing training and support on recordation techniques of sites surveys and projects
  • Developing and providing public information about cultural resources
  • Planning and conducting projects to analyze legacy data
  • Evaluating requests for permits to conduct archaeological investigation on state owned land
  • Designing and producing publicationquality maps and other visual products
