The Opportunity

The Center for Space and Atmospheric Research (CSAR) at the EmbryRiddle Aeronautical University Daytona Beach FL campus invites applications for a Research Engineer position in the area of ionospheric physics and insitu instrumentation. The primary function of this position is to support the ongoing ionospheric research in Space and Atmospheric Instrumentation Laboratory ().

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the construction testing and calibration of Langmuir probes electric field probes ionization gauges magnetometers etc. slated to fly on multiple upcoming sounding rocket missions and small satellites to study the electrodynamics of Earths upper atmosphere;
  • Analyze and interpret data collected from insitu observations and collaborate with other scientists working on the project;
  • Operate maintain and conduct experiments in a plasma chamber. Specifically as it relates to spacecraft charging.
  • Help manage and task undergraduate students for engineering projects as well as collaborate with other researchers in the Center for Space and Atmospheric Research;
  • Present results at relevant conferences and aid in the writing of peerreviewed literature;

This is a 2year 100%time appointment with applicable Universitybenefits and a possibility of renewal for the third year contingent uponsatisfactory performance and continued availability of funds.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications:

This position requires a Master of Science in EngineeringPhysics or a related field. The successful candidate should possess experience in the design and use of insitu instruments (preferably electric probes) as well as programming skills in C and Matlab/Python/Julia.
