The North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) was established by the North Carolina State Board of Education as an online community service K12 public school for students throughout the state of North Carolina. NCVPS is governed by the North Carolina State Board of Education (NCSBE) and reports on a daytoday basis to the NCDPI Chief Academic Officer. As a result of NCVPS work students in the public schools of North Carolina have access to online courses that are unavailable due to teacher shortages or scheduling conflicts. These courses provide students with equity of access to a highquality educational experience regardless of where they live within the state.
NCVPS CONTENT WRITER: EXPECTATIONS:
NCVPS is looking for highly qualified NCcertified educators to serve as subjectmatter experts on course development teams. The qualified applicant should be knowledgeable of course design frameworks such as the Universal Design for Learning principles Revised Blooms Taxonomy and backwards design.
The applicant should have a strong understanding of curriculum standards and experience creating engaging lessons and activities that promote active learning through problembased learning realworld examples authentic assessments and more. The applicant should have high organization and selfmanagement skills and own a personal computer phone/other communication device and Internet access.
START DATE: Selected candidates will complete asynchronous training modules and attend 2 synchronous Zoom sessions from June 30th July 9th and attend a facetoface training on July 10th in Mooresville NC for CEUs. The paid contract start date(s) will follow beginning July 11th.
NCVPS CONTENT WRITER: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The contractor tasked with writing content for a North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) course being developed to meet the identified standards will have the following obligations for employment:
- Prepare for and attend course development collaborative Zoom sessions.
- Attend team meeting facetoface in July if possible.
- Be knowledgeable of and follow NCVPS requirements and federal and state laws and/or guidelines regarding; copyright Fair Use and accessibility and report any violations of federal and state laws and/or guidelines to the NCVPS Staff.
- Follow the approved course outline and contribute to the standards map and alignment chart as indicated by the NCVPS development process.
- Write content as needed to meet the goals and objectives of the NC or indicated content standards in the provided templates with attention to audience clarity engagement and accessibility.
- Revise (or recreate) the content developed based on team feedback according to the timeline.
- Provide feedback as needed on developed content in the LMS.
- Develop all content according to the NCVPS development process and training specifications.
- Uphold all NCVPS guidelines and procedures outlined within the NCVPS training course and workshop to include meeting all deadlines and communicating with the assigned staff member(s) when a deadline cannot be met.
- A final walkthrough of the course will occur if the contractor has met all phase deadlines. If the deadlines are met and the final walkthrough is completed an additional amount of $500 will be paid at the end of the contract. If the contractor does not meet all deadlines the final walkthrough will not occur and the additional amount will not be paid.
IMPORTANT:
- This position is an online (remote) position with one inperson (F2F) meeting dayJuly 10 2025 in Mooresville NC.
- This is a contractbased position.
- A current NC teaching license (in the applicable curriculum area and grade level) is required in order to be considered.

PLEASE NOTE:
- The North Carolina State Board of Education (NCSBE) requires teachers who teach for North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) to have a current NC Professional Educators Teaching License in the subject areas in which they are applying to teach. Time spent as a NCVPS teacher will not count towards an SP1 (initial license) becoming an SP2 license.
