IT TECHNICAL ASSISTANT (SUMMER STUDENT)

ABOUT THE UPPER GRAND DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD (UGDSB)

The UGDSB employs a team of approximately 4000 dedicated staff who serve more than 35000 students attending a variety of programs across 65 elementary and 11 secondary schools as well as continuing education and adult learning centres in the counties of Dufferin Wellington and the City of Guelph. The UGDSB covers the ancestral and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit the Six Nations of the Grand River and Saugeen Ojibway Nation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Digital Support Services (IT) team for the summer work term as an IT Technical Assistant (Summer Student).

Location: Guelph Board Office 500 Victoria Rd. N Guelph ON)

Rate of Pay: $18.50 per hour plus applicable vacation pay in accordance with the Employment Standards Act

Board Information: Temporary full time; 35 hours per week; Monday to Friday

Length of Placement: May 5 2025 with an anticipated end date of August 29 2025

Reporting directly to the Technical Support Manager you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects in an engaging team environment. As part of the IT department you will discover new and existing practices techniques/standards and flourish in a culture of continuous learning and collaboration. Working under the guidance of experienced IT professionals you will cultivate your expertise while being given the opportunity to pursue your professional goals in a school board environment.

As an IT Technical Assistant (Summer Student) you will learn about troubleshooting technical issues and the latest technology and industry trends.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with new computer hardware installations including connecting and disconnecting
  • Assist with delivery and pick up of equipment within the UGDSB schools and Board Office
  • Assist with software installations technical support and network equipment setup (wired and WiFi)
  • Assist with hardware repairs clean up and refurbishment of broken equipment
  • Assist with the projects involving deployments of Windows PCs iPads Macs and Google Chromebooks
  • Assist with Inventory Management
  • Other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a diploma/degree program at a recognized University or College with a focus on Sciences Technology Engineering Math (STEM) or a related field of study
  • Must be enrolled fulltime in a postsecondary institution for September 2025
  • Knowledge of computer hardware repairs system applications and other software; Excel Word and graphic development programs preferred
  • Must have computer troubleshooting skills
  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal organizational and timemanagement skills
  • Must be able to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Class G or G2 Drivers License
