Job Description

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine at The University of Tennessee invites applications for a fulltime clinicaltrack or tenuretrack faculty position in Veterinary Anesthesia at the Assistant or Associate Professor of the faculty include clinical service; clinical and didactic teaching of anesthesia and analgesia to professional students interns and residents; development of a basic science or clinical research program commensurate with effort allocation; and participation in continuing education at the local and national level.

The successful applicant will join a dynamic anesthesia service comprised of four anesthesiologists (three ACVAA board certified) two anesthesia residents eleven anesthesia technicians (four VTS certified in anesthesia) and one veterinary assistant.

The anesthesia service provides anesthetic care for patients primarily in the small animal and large animal hospitals with occasional exotic University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) is equipped with all the resources and expertise of specialty services needed to provide first class patient care teaching and clinical and basic science VMC has a comprehensive ICU and four faculty members board certified in Veterinary Emergency Medicine and Critical Care; a minimally invasive procedures unit and faculty members with expertise in endoscopy laparoscopy and stenting; a stateoftheart physical therapy facility including hyperbaric oxygen therapy; and onsite stem cell services are supported by excellent clinical pathology and diagnostic pathology departments. A fulltime Veterinary Social Work program offers counseling services for clients faculty staff and support services include behavior and nutrition.

It is a short drive to the Great Smoky Mountains as well as to several dogfriendly state parks and recreation areas. Outdoor recreational opportunities include but are not limited to hiking biking trail running climbing and water sports. Requirements for the applicant include a DVM or equivalent degree completion of a formal residency in veterinary anesthesiology and certification or eligibility for certification by the American or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia.
