Summary of Job Duties:

The University of Arkansas at Little Rocks School of Art and Design is seeking to fill the position of Ceramics Instructor (tenure track) to begin in August of 2025. The successful candidate will teach ceramics foundation courses and will mentor students. They will have an active scholarship agenda participate in recruitment retention special programs and will engage in university service. Faculty teaching load is three studio courses per semester or the equivalent lecture courses.

Review of applications will begin January 1 2025 and be accepted until the position is filled. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • MFA in Ceramics or related field.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Demonstrated potential to teach introductory to advanced courses at the college level;
  • Experience with various ceramics processes;
  • Strong record of creative work robust studio practice and evidence of ongoing professional achievement including scholarship related to the position requirements;
  • Experience and commitment to working with diverse populations of learners;
  • Industry Experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate ceramics courses and other art courses including foundations and seminars as needed;
  • Take a lead role in the ceramics program including developing and maintaining ceramics studio equipment/resources curriculum development and budgeting;
  • Perform academic service and affiliated duties as assigned;
  • Maintain creative research and professional practice;
  • Teach courses as scheduled;
  • Use universitysupported LMS and other support platforms;
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment and materials as well as work in excessively hot environments;
  • Knowledge of all aspects of ceramics ranging from functional ware to sculptural objects and installation;
  • Knowledge of studio safety procedures;
  • Knowledge of computer software related to art design and teaching;
  • Demonstrated organizational skills;
  • Ability to teach multiple aspects of ceramics;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate.
