About Our Client:
Our client is a well-established property management company that oversees a diverse portfolio of residential and commercial properties. As part of their continued growth they are looking to hire a proactive and organized Assistant Accountant to support day-to-day finance operations landlord and tenant accounting and monthly reporting and reconciliations.
Job Purpose:
The overall purpose of this role is to support accurate financial recordkeeping for managed properties ensure proper tenant and landlord accounting and assist in compliance with statutory obligations and internal reporting needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Recordkeeping:
- Maintain daily records of financial transactions related to rent collections expenses and payments.
- Post journal entries and ensure all financial transactions have supporting documents.
- Organize and safely store accounting files for future reference or audits.
Tenant and Landlord Accounting:
- Record and track rent payments security deposits and utility charges from tenants.
- Assist in preparing and sharing monthly financial reports for landlords showing collections expenses and balances.
- Help reconcile tenant ledgers and follow up on overdue payments or account differences.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Process supplier invoices and utility bills and prepare them for payment approval.
- Record all incoming payments and issue receipts to tenants or clients.
- Track pending payables and ensure timely follow-up on receivables.
Bank Reconciliations
- Assist in comparing bank statements with company records to ensure accuracy.
- Identify and help resolve any discrepancies between the bank and accounting system.
- Support monthly reconciliations for all property-related bank accounts.
Budgeting and Reporting Support
- Help in preparing income and expense reports for both internal management and landlords.
- Assist in identifying any unusual trends or variances in spending or income.
- Participate in monthly and quarterly financial closing processes.
Audit & Statutory Compliance Support
- Organize and file all tax-related documents receipts and schedules for audits.
- Help with preparation and filing of statutory returns such as VAT.
- Ensure all tax deadlines are met and financial documentation is audit-ready.
General Administrative & Support Tasks
- Maintain neat and updated files of all financial documents both physical and digital.
- Support the main accountant with daily finance duties and reporting needs.
- Carry out any additional finance-related tasks as needed by the department.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum CPA Section II.
- At least 2 years of accounting experience; experience in real estate or property management is an added advantage.
- A Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Accounting Finance or a related field is an added advantage.
- KCSE mean grade C with at least a C in Mathematics and C in English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software such as QuickBooks.

- Familiarity with property management accounting is a plus.
