Position: Observability Engineer
Location: 100 Remote (EST)
Hire Mode: Contract
Experience: 10 years
Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled consultant to join our team to help implement comprehensive monitoring and observability solutions for our cloud environments. This resource will help build systems to monitor and gain deep insights into cloudbased applications and infrastructure allowing teams to identify performance issues troubleshoot problems quickly optimize resource utilization and ensure overall system health. Insights into the usage and health of our infrastructure platforms will be developed to make informed decisions and focus efforts on the most valuable assets. This individual will also create key performance indicator (KPI) dashboards to monitor the effectiveness of our Cloud Programs and ecosystem. The primary tools used will be Splunk and PowerBI.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expertise in Splunk ingestion and development practices.
- Configure access and usage of Splunk API to properly manage and automate changes to dashboards and macros.
- Develop and maintain reusable Splunk macros.
- Develop and customize Splunk dashboards reports and alerts to meet client requirements.
- Perform data ingestion parsing and indexing from various data sources.
- Assist with correlating data from different sources to gain holistic system understanding.
- Design and implement PowerBI dashboards for data visualization and reporting of key performance indicators.
- Ensure data accuracy consistency and security across all reports and dashboards.
- Provide training and support to team members on observability practices and tools.
Skills Required:
- Monitoring/Observability Tools Proficiency: At least 5 yearsexperience with monitoring/observability tools.
- Strong proficiency and a minimum 3 yearsexperience with Splunk creating dashboards reports and alerts.
- Strong knowledge of Splunk architecture deployment and administration.
- Strong proficiency with data ingestion parsing and indexing.
- Proficient in PowerBI for data visualization and reporting.
- Cloud Computing Expertise: Understanding and experience with AWS cloud platform.
- Data Analysis Skills: Ability to interpret complex data sets identify trends and draw actionable insights. Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills.
- Programming Skills: Proficient with scripting languages (e.g. Python) for data manipulation and automation.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication and teamwork to work with development and operations teams. Strong technical writing skills and ability to crosstrain other team members.
Relevant certifications in Splunk PowerBI and cloud technologies are desirable.
