DescriptionThe Mayo Clinic Comprehensive CancerPatient Navigator is a liaison betweenour patients and Mayo Clinic. The Patient Navigator assists the patient and family by identifying needs and facilitating the connection to resources to decrease barriers to treatment and improve overall patient experience. The Patient Navigator remains current with resource and referral information and helps identify gaps in resources offered working within the community to help bridge those gaps. The Patient Navigator works collaboratively with staff throughout Mayo Clinic and local service providers to enhance service and referral networks. The Patient Navigator is required to adhere to the ethical compliance and regulatory standards set forth for the enter/department/division/program and institution. Must enjoy interacting with and serving a diverse patient population and thrive in a rapidlychanging fastpaced environment.
Qualifications- Bachelors degree and three years of experience in communication customer service or patient careORAssociates degree or other college certificate or diploma required with six years of experience in communication customer service or patient care required.
- Prior experience in working with diverse patient populations; demonstrate understanding and respect for different values and cultural practices with respect to health care and personal communications.
- Prior experience working with public health programs or in health systems which serve communities of color and marginalized populations.
- Bilingual candidate preferred but not required.
- Experience working with cancer patients of all ages and families preferred.
- Awareness of and comfortability with connecting cancer patients and caregivers to local regional and national resources.
- Demonstrated listening and engaging skills is required.
- Demonstrated organizational communication and teamwork skills.
- Must be flexible and have the ability to respond to changing priorities and varying workloads.
- Experience in a medical field managed care or similar environment and knowledge of the Mayo system is strongly preferred.
- Requires effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in a complex environment with multidimensional points of view.
- The incumbent must be able to work effectively in a consensusstyle operation that expects and promotes teamwork.
- Must be comfortable with ambiguity exhibit good decision making and judgment capabilities attention to detail and followthrough.
- Must possess the ability to inspire trust and confidence and communicate effectively with internal and external audiences.
- Incumbent must be selfmotivated selfdirected and highly organized who will promote a productive collegial workplace and be a professional ambassador for Mayo Clinic.
- Ability to prioritize work and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously is necessary in this position.
- Belief in the mission and strong ethical conduct is essential.
- Demonstrated proficiency in information technology MS Office products and clinical applications.
- An understanding of a complex healthcare system and the philanthropic process is desirable.
- Requires the ability to work collaboratively and professionally to build rapport with others at all levels of responsibility.
- Must possess effective interpersonal skills and the ability to interact on a professional level with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
