Resource Teacher

Purpose Statement

The job of Resource Teacher is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for facilitating student success in academic areas; supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers other professional staff and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

This job reports to the Building Principal.

Essential Functions

  • Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  • Administers developmental testing programs subject specific assessments etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations of student achievements developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment. Advises students for the purpose of improving performance health status problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues. Assesses student progress toward objectives expectations and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students parents and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff instructional groups other school personnel parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes and achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
  • Directs student teachers paraprofessionals volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study.
  • Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom playground field trips halls lunchroom commons etc. for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Monitors student progress towards goals for the purpose of making adjustments that ensure student success.
  • Participates in the development of student IEPs measurable goals and objectives for the purpose of ensuring student access to the District Curriculum and instruction on State standards and benchmarks.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings workshops and seminars (e.g. professional staff department IEP etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of written and/or electronic materials and records (e.g. grades attendance anecdotal records IEPs evaluations etc. for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights suspected child abuse suspected substance abuse etc. for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code and school policies.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers parents administrators etc. for the purpose of resolving issues providing information and/or direction.
  • Supports classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans.

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple highly complex technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skillbased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling frequent stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 34 sitting 33 walking and 33 standing. The job is performed in a clean atmosphere.

Program for Adaptive Living Skills (PALS) Teacher

Purpose Statement

The job of Program For Adaptive Living Skills (PALS) Teacher is done for the purpose/s of providing adapted/accommodated grade level academics and age appropriate living skills to students on IEPs with severe cognitive disabilities and/or profound physical limitations; providing for the supervision and instruction of severely special needs students; observing and documenting student progress; implementing plans for instruction; and assisting students by providing for special health care needs.

This job reports to the Building Principal.

Essential Functions

  • Adapts grade level academics and/or appropriate living skill materials for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and the IEP.
  • Administers developmental testing programs subject specific assessments etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual educational plans.
  • Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g. diapering tube feeding colostomy bags medication etc. for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs and/or developing childrens daily living activities and behavioral skills. Attends meetings workshops professional development activities and inservice presentations (e.g. first aid CPR emergency procedures current best practices etc. for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff other school personnel parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes achieving established classroom objectives and meeting IEP objectives.
  • Communicates with professional personnel and parents/guardians (e.g. teachers parents counselors and/or participates in IEP meetings etc. for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
  • Directs student teachers paraprofessionals volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing effective classroom programs addressing the needs of individual students and maintaining equitable schedules.
  • Instructs and monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (e.g. lunch bus stops playground classroom field trips public transportation assemblies kitchen classroom etc. for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment and meeting the requirements of the IEP.
  • Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items providing written reference and/or meeting mandated requirements.
  • Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Meets with a team of school professionals parents and other involved persons for the purpose of developing an IEP that will promote growth in students living skills and academic areas.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of IEP goals for the purpose of meeting IEP goals and/or District benchmarks as well as meeting District State and Federal guidelines.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades advancement in IEP objectives attendance anecdotal records etc. for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Provides quality instruction support care and supervision (e.g. transfer shower change diapers feed with tubes administer medicine perform motor programs etc. for the purpose of helping students safely learn academics and life skills in a healthy environment.
