Job Description

Day Camp Counselor II Adventure Awaits!

Starting Hourly Rate: $17.78

Work Schedule: June to the end of August Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm (flexible shifts up to 40 hours per week).

Do you have a knack for working with kids a love for the river and a desire to make a difference Become a Day Camp Counselor II and lead a group of 20 campers on an unforgettable summer river adventure! Collaborating with a team youll guide campers through exciting activities on and off the river fostering their social skills and creating lasting memories. Were looking for enthusiastic responsible and experienced individuals who can inspire joy and create a positive and safe camp experience.

Were seeking counselors with:

  • Extensive experience working with and mentoring children
  • Strong communication interpersonal and leadership skills
  • The ability to manage camper interactions effectively
  • A passion for the outdoors and creating a fun and engaging environment

Nature of Work:

Assists the Day Camp Director and/or Recreation Supervisor with planning organization implementation and teaching of the day camp program. The counselor should plan to assist/or substitute for Day Camp Director. Experience and strong interest in working with children in a recreational setting. Ability to work independently with groups of children. River Day Camps are outdoor based and include daily boating and fishing activities. May exert up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • Knowledge of instructional methods and behavior management of children and experience working with children in a recreational setting
  • Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment. The City offers free CPR/AED and First Aid classes to Parks employees. Certification must be from an organization approved by the Bureau of Community and Health Systems Child Care Licensing Division. See link for a list of approved organizations.

Positions in this class typically require reaching lifting grasping and repetitive motions. Individuals must be able to hear talk or see. Must be able to move and lift light objects less than 20 lbs. such as mail files and supplies.
