- $48000 dependent on experience Exempt
- 40 hours per week
- This position will work onsite the Grand Forks ND campus.
Purpose of Position
The Department of Physics and Astrophysics is seeking a 12month postdoctoral research fellow to conduct research in experimental quantum optics. The initial appointment will be for one year and is fulltime and benefitted with potential for renewal for a second year pending annual review of performance and continued availability of funding.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design assemble and perform quantum optics experiments with heralded single photons.
- Characterize and maintain lasers optical detectors and other laboratory equipment.
- Implement models of photon propagation and nonlinear optics using python.
- Analyze results with PI and draft manuscripts for publication and proposals for external grants.
- Present research at conferences.
- Mentor junior team members.
Required Competencies
- Familiarity with optical benchtop experiments laser systems and optical detectors
- Excellent technical writing skills
- Desire to solidify a research career in optics and establish and independent research
direction
Minimum Requirements
- Ph.D. in experimental quantum optics or related field
- Demonstrated evidence of publishing in peerreviewed journals
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Have research experience in at least one of the following topics 1 photon pair sources 2 quantum key distribution 3 nonlinear frequency conversion 4 fiber optics 5 interferometry 6 freespace optical communication
- Research background in optics
- Programming experience (python preferred Fortran LabView)
- Experience with hardware control hardware programming
- Experience with CAD (Inventor Solidworks) fabrication
