McNeil Island Fire Department Lieutenant (Job Class: Assistant Fire Chief Coalition)
The Department of Social and Health Services is seeking to hire a Fire Department Lieutenant to provide fire and emergency services at the Special Commitment Center (SCC) on McNeil Island.


The work schedule is a 48/96 (two days on / four days off).

Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.

Opportunities performed onsite at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5 premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Special Commitment Center staff ride a passenger boat between Steilacoom and McNeil Island. The boat/ferry trip is approximately 20 minutes each way. SCC employees receive an additional $10 per day premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and a free Orca card for transportation use.

Certified SCC Assistant Fire Chiefs are compensated an additional $10.00 per hour over and above regular salary and benefits for every hour engaged in giving instruction to or in receiving recertification training.

Some of what youll do


Who should apply
Those with a current Washington State Emergency Medical Technician Certification.

And

Four years of experience as a structural firefighter or above at a fire department involved in fire suppression activities.
Or
One year of experience as a lieutenant or above at a fire department involved in fire suppression activities which includes experience as a training officer.
Or
A twoyear degree in Fire Science.

Desired
  • Ability to apply nationally recognized firefighting emergency medical care and rescue techniques to emergent and stressful situations while maintaining exceptional professionalism and courtesy.
  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Ability to concisely and effectively express ideas orally and in writing.
