Located in the heart of central Virginia Albemarle County (est. pop. 116k) is home to the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains lush forests and scenic waterways. The area is also known for its charming small towns and the City of Charlottesville which serves as Albemarle Countys county seat.

The Chief of Budget plays a crucial role in shaping the Countys financial strategy bringing creativity to revenue planning and ensuring sustainable longterm debt management. This position involves working closely with partner entities and constitutional officers serving as an expert and a voice of reason in negotiations and strategic discussions. Reporting to the Assistant Chief Financial Officer the Chief of Budget oversees the Office of Management and Budget in the Department of Finance and Budget. The total budget of the Department of Finance and Budget is $9.8M of which $655000 is the Office of Management and Budget.
The starting salary for this position will be $112163 $123969 and a $5000 signon bonus. Albemarle County offers excellent benefits including annual (front loaded) and sick leave health insurance options (health vision and dental) and Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits. The County provides cell phone stipends as agreed upon to conduct daytoday business. This is a fulltime FLSA Exempt position. Countypaid life insurance and deferred compensation are available. Residency within Virginia is required. A candidate relocating from outside Albemarle County may receive relocation assistance up to $7000. This position is eligible for a hybrid remote work schedule that is in compliance with the Countys Remote Work Policy and meets the operational and service needs of the position.
This position requires graduation from an accredited fouryear college or university with major coursework in business administration public administration political science or related field with substantial concentration in finance and budget; and progressively responsible work experience in budgeting strategic planning and management business process analysis organizational development or quality improvement management and training preferably in a local government setting. Masters degree preferred.
