The Team Leader Community Development oversees a team of multidisciplinary officers who collaborate on various projects and programs that enhance social justice and community wellbeing across the municipality.

What youll be doing:

  • Support the delivery of Community Grants program to enhance the capacity of community groups and organisations to develop innovative and best practice activities and initiatives which promote Social Justice outcomes.
  • Monitor all available data to identify trends and provide timely advice to Council and other key stakeholders to identify opportunities for innovation in the areas of access social equity and inclusion.
  • Contribute to Councils ongoing policy leadership in the area of human rights and social justice.
  • To establish and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with community members and organisations in the Hume municipality.
  • To foster collaboration and partnerships within Council and between key agencies such as Federal and State Government Departments Community Centres and Neighbourhood Houses sporting clubs schools Victoria Police transport operators local business employment and learning organisations and the community.
  • To strategically position the community development work program to align with Council Plans and Policies. To negotiate resources and investment from partners in response to local priorities.
  • To identify external funding and sponsorship opportunities and develop and prepare funding submissions.
  • Lead and provide day to day management of direct reports and other staff as funding and projects arise within Hume City Councils core values of respect collaboration customer service and innovation.
  • Manage the Community Development budget in accordance with Council policies and procedures.
  • Perform work in accordance with Humes values of respect collaboration customer focus and innovation.
  • Provide support and expert advice to the Community Health and Wellbeing Coordinators and to work in collaboration with other Council Departments as identified by management and Council.

The skills and experience youll bring to the role:

  • Expert knowledge of access equity and social justice principles and their application to reduce disadvantage and to strengthen and empower communities and promote social cohesion.
  • Experience in leading and managing multiple programs projects and teams with diverse skillsets.
  • Experience in designing conducting and analysing social research initiatives including stakeholder engagement.
  • Expert knowledge of access equity and social justice principles and their application in a local government setting through the development implementation and review of strategic documents and policies.
  • Sound knowledge of the role of Local Government in community development with extensive experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander multicultural and LGBTIQA populations.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of social policy frameworks plans and strategies.
  • Proven facilitation presentation liaising and influencing skills with residents community groups and organisations and proven ability to work with and engage a broad range of stakeholders including boards of management and peak bodies.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills.

Required Certifications & Qualifications: 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in a Social Science Community Development Social Planning or related discipline and/or substantial relevant experience.
