Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Coordinator of Programs Blind or Visually Impaired (BVI) Atlantic Canada the Education Support Teacher Social Emotional Learning (ESTSEL) delivers targeted social emotional learning support to learners who receive services from APSEA. The ESTSEL also assists families and APSEA employees in implementing best practices around social emotional development for learners spanning from birth through the transition from school to community.

Daytoday the EST SEL:
- Supports the social emotional development of learners in the five 5 Core Competencies of selfawareness selfmanagement social awareness relationship skills and responsible decision making.
- Develops and implements Social Emotional Learning opportunities at the Tier 1 and Tier 2 level in virtual and inperson environments.
- Collaborates with learners families APSEA Education Support Teachers and Education Support Specialists and other APSEA employees school teams and community agencies with respect to:
Skill development in the five 5 core competencies of Social Emotional Learning.
Transition from birth through to the school to community transition process.
- Supports culturally responsive pedagogy trauma informed practices and restorative approaches for learners.
- Consults with APSEA coordinators supervisors and employees concerning social emotional learning needs of learners.
- Provides guidance to APSEA employees on designing social emotional learning integration into the learning environment.
- Supports processes to create a safe equitable positive and supportive learning environment in which diversities are valued.
Qualifications and Experience You Bring:
- Masters degree in education of Learners who are Blind or Visually Impaired or equivalent
- Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certificate
- Bachelor or masters degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work Psychology Counseling or a related field is an asset.
- Brings knowledge of Social Emotional Learning and Restorative approaches to their work.
- Training in culturally responsive pedagogy trauma informed practices and restorative approaches
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and relate positively to children families early learning staff APSEA staff administrators educational team members and community partners.
- Demonstrates confidentiality and professionalism with regard to access and distribution of student information.
- Strong commitment to professional growth and learning to remain current in the field.
- Experience working in a virtual learning environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent communication skills in English oral and written.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- French language and American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency is an asset.
- Demonstrated selfinitiative and ability to work with limited supervision.
- Travel is expected: access to a reliable mode of transportation is required.
- Training in coaching mentoring & facilitation are an asset
