Job Description

Amergis Educational Staffing is seeking an COTA to provide occupational therapy services including treatment implementation standardized assessment data and documentation. This position is part time.Responsibilities:Provides interventions to impact patients functional ability (muscle function endurance visual coordination written and verbal communication skills self care ability work capacity etc) as delegated by the Occupational TherapistUnderstands the role of therapy in the context of the patients age total needs perspective and EnvironmentParticipates in the ongoing assessment of the home environment for equipment needs and the reduction of barriers or safety risks (if applicable)Teaches new skills or retrains patients in oncefamiliar daily activities that have become difficult or unfamiliar due to illness or injuryConsistently reports to the Occupational Therapist regarding patient progress/status to promote modification of treatment programEnsures that patient/family understands when and how to receive further treatmentMaintains timely legible and efficient patientcare documentationNotes remain concise pertinent and meet departmental documentation standardsInstructs patient and/or family/caregiver in the use of various types of adaptive equipment and/or splints to improve function.Ensures equipment is in good working orderTrains patient and/or family/caregiver in use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devicesMay utilize physical agents including but not limited to heat cold water light electricity ultrasound and massageIdentifies patient and/or family/caregiver needs for other supportive services and notifies the Occupational Therapist and/or Director of Clinical Services and/or case manager.Reports patients reactions(s) to treatment or change(s) in condition to the physician and/or Director of Clinical services or designee and Occupational TherapistPrepares and submits clinical progresssummaries based on the progress toward goals and responses to treatmentParticipates in discharge of patient at point of optimal benefit of treatment making appropriate provision for continuing services if needed.Participates in case conferences meetings and inservice educationAccording to knowledge level may provide inservice education programs for other disciplines as necessaryComplies with applicable local state and federal laws and regulations regarding professional standards and practice standardsPerforms other duties as assigned/necessaryMinimum Requirements:Current certification or license as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of practiceGraduate of an accredited school of Occupational Therapy Assistant requiredCertified with the National Certification Examination of the American Occupational Therapy AssociationOne 1 year of experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant preferredHome care and/or facility setting preferredCurrent record of PPD or chest xray resultsCurrent CPR certificationAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including but not limited to supervisors coworkers clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of age
