Job Description:
The Chemistry & Biochemistry Department at Fairfield University invites applications for a Professor of the Practice position at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level beginning in Fall 2025. This is a nontenure track position including teaching and service with no research obligations.
The position is for instruction in our General Chemistry for the Health Sciencescurriculum: a onesemesterlecture course and a onesemester laboratory course that are required for nursing students and are taken by many prehealth students. The courses include topics in general chemistry organic chemistry and biochemistry. The teaching loadeach semester willbe three lecture sections and one laboratory section. The lecture and laboratorymaterials forthese coursesare coordinated to complement each other.The candidate willalso be expected to contribute to university serviceopportunities.
Requirements:
Applicants are expected to have completed a M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry or an allied field orshouldexpect to receive their degree by summer 2025.Applicants must have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduatelecture and laboratoryand should haveundergraduate teaching experiencepreferably in General Chemistry for the Health Sciences or in a similar course. Candidates should havegood communication skills and experience using classroom/laboratory technology. Additionally successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to pedagogical innovation.

The Department consists of eleven fulltime faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious wellequipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. The Department has high quality NSFfunded instrumentation including a 400 MHz NMR spectrometer and a MALDITOF mass spectrometer. Our Department offers ACSaccredited B.S. degrees in Chemistry and in Biochemistry. The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has a vibrant culture of undergraduate studentfaculty collaboration in research including departmental events and guest lecturers and a large student interest in the health sciences.
