Title:NonCalmJunior Sailing Program Head Coach
Reports to:Program Director General Manager and in Collaboration with NonCalm Advisory Committee
Supervises:NonCalm Coaches and sailors
Education and/or Experience
- 4 year College graduate
- US Sailing level 2 or 3
- All levels coaching experience
- First Aid/CPR
- Leadership and effective communication skills
- Prior work with kids
- Passion for sailing is preferred but not required
Job Knowledge Core Competencies and Expectations
Ability to manage 15 subordinates. Ability to create and implement curriculum for all Junior Sailing Programs. Ability to coach all levels of sailing with an expected high proficiency in advanced junior sailing (singlehanded doublehanded platforms). Good communication skills with all stake holders (parent sailors parent committee). Professional and approachable attitude.
Job Summary (Essential Functions)
Work with the Junior Sailing program director to develop and maintain the sailing calendar to include program dates with regattas and events. Support and/or direct other NHYC sailing/coaching as directed by NonCalm Board such as the NHYC Team Racing. Support the Program Director with tasks pertaining to summer program planning hiring and organizing.
Job Tasks/Duties
- Organize Fall Spring and Summer Registration
- Develop and maintain the sailing calendar to include program dates with regattas and events
- Develop class lists emergency contact information record keeping medical & liability forms
- Produce the yearly Parents Manuel and Instructor Manuel
- Assists with recruitment of coaches for Fall Winter Spring and Summer programs
- Oversee Summer program direct 160 Sailors and 14 coaches
- Oversee and monitor the Junior Instructor Program
- Organize Regattas trailer assignments towing coaching accommodations for level class assignments.
- Order and gather all supplies needed for summer fall and spring programs for all level class assignments
- Maintain equipment: radios marks dollies club CFJs order necessary parts.
- Assist committee volunteers in the coordination for graduation trophy night noncalm commendation dinner kickoff dinner.
- Prepare and assist with instructor orientation & junior instructor orientation break off and lead orientation for level class assignments.
- Coach winter spring summer and fall regattas/clinics and classes
- Attends Junior Board meetings
- Travel is expected to local regattas in Southern California
- Attend parent advisory committee meetings
- Document billing for summer spring and fall season. Set up and maintain private lessons through members and coaches
- Handle disciplinary issues based on policy in the employee handbook
- Priority coaching on weekdays of NHYC (additional days of NHHS)
- Head coach NHHS: organize practices attend regattas work with parent volunteers and NHHS staff abide by any rules and requirements of NHHS
- Organize coaching for NHYC if conflicts with NHHS sailing
Physical Requirements:
- Work outdoors for extended hours in various weather condition
- Able to swim
- Ready and willing to help with all boat maintenance related tasks to include flipping boats onto sabot racks pulling boats out of water and righting capsized boats on water.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
