Position Summary

The position of Director of Nursing functions under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer and ensure quality of care. The position provides leadership guidance and direction to staff. Maintains accountability for level of unit performance and results. Responsible for quality functional excellence and contribution to accomplishment of strategic and operational objectives. The Director of Nursingwill practice relationships centered care in concert with the companys core values of compassion integrity and innovation and demonstrates excellent customer service standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participates in planning budgeting and general management efforts for the department of which the unit is a part and stays within budget.
  • Plans and organizes daytoday operations schedule and activities of the unit.
  • Sets priorities and functional standards gives direction to staff as necessary.
  • Organizes oversees and leads work efforts as appropriate to insure the best possible delivery of service and high customer/patient satisfaction.
  • Makes and executes decisions within delegated authority. Surfaces issues to management for resolution as appropriate. Participates in resolving issues outside delegated scope of authority.
  • Provides leadership to have a competent and satisfied employee group by doing timely performance appraisals providing development and mentoring of subordinates and staff. Develops subordinates to perform these same functions.
  • Hires coaches trains disciplines and terminates staff as necessary. Develops subordinates to perform these same functions
  • Maintains balance in their job to insure that they are taking care of themselves.
  • Performs other related work as required
  • Demonstrates the components of the hospitals core values of compassion integrity and innovation.
  • Demonstrates customer service standards by smiling making eye contact greeting each patient and visitor seeing outpatient and visitor contact displaying appropriate body language at all times taking time to go above and beyond for one patient/visitor each day honoring diversity and thanking each customer.
  • Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports all accidents and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Safety/Infection Control

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to regulations and policies and procedures pertaining to safety emergency preparedness infection control OSHA fire safety and hazardous materials
  • Complies with the National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate
  • Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports all accidents and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.

Performance Improvement

  • Participate in performance improvement activities as necessary

Customer Service

  • Maintain confidentiality of patient related issues and adhering to all HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills
  • Treat all patients visitors and staff members fairly and with respect
  • Utilize effective communication methods and skills
  • Explain all procedures treatments and care while remaining aware of language barriers
  • Able to perform care in nonjudgmental manner and recognize discrepancies between patient and personal beliefs

  • Ensure personal appearance is business casual and professional at all times
  • Responsible for wearing identification badge at all times which must be visible and above the waistline
  • Attend all required meetings and inservice education
  • Remain flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts; participates in temporary assignments
  • Compliance with attendance standards
  • Demonstrate flexibility when changes in assignments are necessary

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • RN Licensure in the State of Texas with an Associates degree required and a Bachelors or Masters preferred.
  • Minimum of two years management experience preferred.
  • BLS and ACLS PALs certifications

LANGUAGE/MATH/REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in oneonone and small group situations to customers clients and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement volume and distance
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Basic computer skills

  • BLS ACLS PALs certifications

  • The physical demands for this position include: adequate vision hearing and repetitive motion
  • Light physical activity performing nonstrenuous daily activities of an administrative nature
  • Ascending or descending stairs ramps and the like using feet and legs and/or hands and arms
  • Substantial movements (motion) of the wrist hands and/or fingers in a repetitive manner
  • Bending legs downward and forward by bending leg and spine
