Title: Summer Academy Associate Instructor Math

- PreSemester Orientation and Asynchronous Training: Begin in June exact dates to come
- Programming Dates: MondayFriday July 125
There will also be future Saturday opportunities for Fall and Spring semesters.
Position Overview
Associate Instructors will join SEOs community of passionate educators to implement a rigorous college prep curriculum for motivated and driven high school students. Associate Instructors coteach alongside Instructors to facilitate classroom instruction teach mini lessons organize small group and oneonone instruction and provide additional Scholar support. Associate Instructors are the first to cover when there is an instructor absence and do not have grading responsibilities. Associate Instructors coteach Math and Advisory.
SEO Miami is a bichronous program for Scholars with 100 online lesson instruction facilitated through Zoom.
The Courses
The 10th Grade math course offered for Summer Academy is:
- Graphs and Relationships
- Skills include: properties of numbers; expressions equations and identities; ratio and rate; percentages; proportional reasoning; irrational numbers; linear quadratic and exponential functions (including compound growth formula); algebraic representation of functions; graphing functions and identifying key characteristics; modeling realworld situations with functions; systems of equations and inequalities; algebra with exponents; fractional exponents and roots; algebra with rational expressions and equations; properties 2D and 3D geometric figures; introduction to coordinate geometry.
Math Associate Instructors also coteach one period of our Advisory course. This course is designed to prepare Scholars for academic and social success. Throughout their time in SEOs High School Scholars program Advisory includes two courses Identity & Empowerment (IE) and Level All. Level All is a college and career readiness partner. 911th grade lessons are organized by the following 5 themes: Preparing for Success in High School Career Exploration Affording College College Exploration and Decision Making College Applications and Admissions.
Math Associate Instructors will facilitate the following Advisory course:
- 10th Grade The Power of My Academic Identity
Dates Times and Hours:
- Selfguided Asynchronous Instructor Training: New Instructional staff will complete Asynchronous Training that equates to 10 hours of work. This can be completed on your own time and will be completed prior to the start of programming.
- Instructor Orientation: First week of June; exact date coming soon
- Summer Academy: 7/17/3 7/77/10 7/147/17 7/217/24
- Professional Development: 7/11 7/18 7/25
- Standard Hours are when the associate instructor must be working online with staff or students instructing/coteaching a class or engaging with an instructional prep or support period:
- MondayThursday 8:45am1:30pm about 5 Hours/day
- Friday PD 9:30am12:30pm 3 hours
- Flex Hours make up the additional teacher work educators know go into the job. This is time spent preparing for the lesson following up with Scholars communicating with staff and Scholars etc. These are hours put in outside of the required schedule and can be completed asynchronously throughout the week
Key Responsibilities:
- Online Instruction & Facilitation CoTeach four to five periods including Math and Advisory classes. When asked to cover for another instructor Associate Instructors will lead the class on their own. Follow provided lesson plans and meet lesson objectives abiding by SEOs articulated criteria for rigorous instruction and student engagement.
- Navigate Instructional Technologies Learn and efficiently utilize our instructional technologies such as Brightspace (Learning Management System) Desmos GSuit applications and Zoom chat (instant messaging tool) in a Blended Learning environment.
- Content Preparation Read internalize and practice all lesson plans and materials provided by SEO prior to teaching. Implement thoughtful adjustments to pacing and activities based on specific student needs.
- Classroom Culture Project an energetic engaging and approachable persona to promote students connection to the content investment in the learning experience and positive relationship to all members of the community.
- Collaboration with SEO Staff and Instructors Plan and work alongside an Instructor to build optimal experiences for Scholar learning in coteaching and/or single instruction models. Attend all scheduled meetings professional development trainings checkins and debriefs and respond to all emails and Zoom chats in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum of a Bachelors degree in content related field
- Teaching certification K12 classroom teaching experienceEducation Degree and Certification (teaching certification does not have to be in 912 high school education) and/or experience teaching at the college or university level
- Experience working with high schoolaged students
- Comfortable with navigating and skilled at navigating technological learning systems
- Expertise and depth of knowledge in advanced high schoollevel Mathematics
Preferred:
- Understanding and practice of studentcentered pedagogy
- Online Course Facilitation Experience
- Knowledge and experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- Certifications PD course completions and/or tertiary education in Instructional Technologies
- Experience with Online Learning (or elearning) Tutoring or Instruction other than Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT)
- Florida resident with teaching experience in Florida schools.
- Eagerness to engage in conversations analyzing the historical and continued causes of societal ills and challenges.

This position is benefits ineligible in accordance with local state and federal regulations.

Consistent with applicable law compensation will be determined based on the skills qualifications and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position and SEO reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time.
