The Opportunity

Position Overview

The Dean of Pedagogical Impact and Excellence is responsible for cultivating a culture of excellence in teaching and learning. Focused primarily on online educationand with plans to integrate complementary inperson learning where appropriatethe Dean will advance highquality pedagogical practices drive instructional innovation and ensure measurable improvements in student success. In collaboration with UFreds academic leadership the Dean will work to integrate evidencebased teaching strategies and lead initiatives that align with the institutions strategic goals. The Dean of Pedagogical Impact and Excellence reports directly to the Provost and VicePresident Academic.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership in Pedagogical Excellence

  • Strategic Implementation: Develop and implement strategies that promote effective studentcentered teaching across the university.
  • Best Practices in Pedagogy: Identify and champion evidencebased best practices in curriculum design pedagogy and assessment to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Faculty Development: Collaborate with academic leaders including the Dean of Programs to ensure that faculty employ proven teaching methodologies that yield measurable improvements in student achievement.

Ensuring Impactful Teaching Practices

  • Workshops and Training: Organize and lead an annual workshop on effective pedagogical strategies and assessment methodologies to maintain UFreds leadership in online education.
  • Teaching Effectiveness Culture: Foster a culture that integrates measurable learning impact into academic programming and ensures teaching strategies contribute directly to student success.
  • Staying Current with Trends: Stay updated with the latest developments in teaching effectiveness and ensure UFreds pedagogical framework remains resultsdriven.

Enhancing Student Learning Outcomes

  • DataDriven Assessment: Prioritize datainformed assessment practices to continuously refine teaching methods and curriculum effectiveness.
  • Faculty Collaboration: Work with faculty to tailor teaching strategies that optimize student learning outcomes.
  • Alignment with Research: Ensure UFreds pedagogical framework aligns with contemporary research in teaching effectiveness to maintain consistency in student success metrics.

Institutional Leadership & Collaboration

  • Development Team Leadership: Provide effective leadership to the UFred Development Team fostering collaboration innovation and continuous improvement in digital learning solutions.
  • CrossDepartmental Coordination: Work closely with faculty instructional designers and administrative leadership to integrate best practices in teaching and assessment.
  • Advocacy for Student Success: Advocate for a focused measurable approach to pedagogy that positions UFred as a leader in studentcentered outcomedriven education.

What youll need

Qualifications

Education

  • A PhD or EdD in Education Instructional Design or a related field.

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years in a leadership role focused on pedagogy faculty development or online education.
  • Demonstrated expertise in evidencebased teaching methodologies curriculum design and assessment strategies.
  • A strong background in online and technologyenhanced learning with a focus on student engagement and achievement.
  • Proven ability to lead faculty in implementing teaching practices that result in measurable improvements in student learning.
  • Experience in designing and leading faculty development programs and workshops.
  • Experience in higher education leadership with an emphasis on faculty mentorship and institutional strategy (preferred).

Skills

  • Familiarity with learning analytics and the practical application of datainformed teaching effectiveness (preferred).
  • A track record of advancing outcomeoriented pedagogy at an institutional level (preferred).
  • Knowledge of contemporary student success frameworks and their implementation in online education (preferred).

Hours of Work

This is a fulltime permanent position 35 hours) under regular business hours 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Location Requirement

The Dean of Pedagogical Impact and Excellence must reside in New Brunswick and may work remotely. However they must be available to attend the Fredericton office weekly and as requested
