Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health & Community Services is Canberras only Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service. Located in the heart of Canberra we provide trusted holistic healthcare to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the ACT and surrounding areas.
The Connected Beginnings Program aims to give all children the best possible start by improving their wellbeing before they begin school. This program focuses on family function and access to essential services ensuring children grow up in a safe stable and nurturing environment.
Winnunga is establishing a new team to support this vital program and we need passionate individuals to help us make a real difference!
About the Role
This role is focused on parental capacity building helping families develop the skills and knowledge needed to create a safe nurturing and structured home environment for their children.
As a Family Support Worker you will take on a mentorship role guiding families to strengthen their routines improve financial management and develop positive parenting strategies.
Your work will include:
Guiding parents in building confidence and skills in caring for their children
Assisting families with budgeting exercises to improve financial stability
Teaching meal preparation and nutrition to encourage healthy eating habits
Supporting parents in establishing routines and family structures
Helping families set and achieve meaningful goals based on their needs
Connecting families with local services and resources
Working independently under supervision while being part of a supportive team.
Who Were Looking For
We are seeking caring and resourceful individuals who understand the importance of family structure and has a strong commitment to community support.
The ideal candidate:
Will have the ability to work in partnership with families and other staff in an empowering and collaborative way.
Can be male or female identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or a nonIndigenous parent of Indigenous children lived experience is vital to the role
Has a good understanding of local services and supports available to families
Can work independently while receiving guidance and supervision
