High School Diploma or GED Required.
Graduate of a certified Medical Assistance training program preferred.
Under general supervision of the Administrative Director and Attending Physician the Medical Assistant will be responsible for running an efficient and fast paced orthopaedic foot & ankle clinic and collaborating with clinicians to deliver excellent patient care. This is an excellent position for someone with past orthopaedic MA experience seeking an opportunity to work with a top tier surgical team invested in the professional growth of their employees. This position is also geared toward individuals looking to gain handson clinical experience before attending nursing or PA school. This position requires travel to multiple sites together with physician sites include Boston Waltham and NewtonWellesley. Travel expenses are subsidized.
Specific tasks include:
- Utilize two appropriate patient identification methods for each patient in compliance with regulations
- Review the daily schedule of patients and facilitate efficient patient flow.
- Utilize IS systems EPIC Clinical and Financial LMR Ambulatory Patient Tracking ROE etc
- Take patients vital signs and prepare for physical examination
- Perform ancillary services including suture removal and all others as so directed by the physician.
- Enter radiology orders under the direction of the physician or advanced practitioner
- Perform basic casting and placement of durable medical equipment (DME) experience is a plus
- Routinely scan patient charts and records into system to ensure information is easily accessible to entire practice
- Coordinate MRI and CT scans with patient and imaging facility
- Submit referral requests via clinical referral management system and followup with patient to ensure that appropriate followup care has been coordinated
- Process authorized requests for prescription refills and process medical related paperwork under the direction of the physician (e.g. handicap placards)
- Evaluate and coordinate telephone calls from patients for advice or questions.
- Assist the physician in reporting test results to patients including followup.
- Assist the physician in coordinating all appropriate care in other settings such as visiting nurse visits home agencies hospice home IV infusions etc.
- Ensure appropriate stocking of all examination rooms with supplies requisitions and all materials necessary for efficient patient care.
- Coordinate practice activities with physician to insure appropriate level and quality of services including maintaining supplies of medications and equipment.
- Participate in all quality assurance activities of the practice with respect to patient care.
- Maintain a clean uncluttered atmosphere for patient care. Disinfect and prepare clinic rooms before and after each patient visit and conduct clinic in a hygienic manner in keeping with infection control guidelines.
- Prepare patient Records/ Charts and retrieve imaging in a proactive way so that all imaging and records on available prior to the start of each clinic day.
- Performs all other duties that are practice specific and are appropriate to this level of position; this may include projects as assigned. Additional tasks may include filling in at the front desk as needed.
