GAI Consultants a national multidisciplinary engineering firm a Construction Technician (Transportation Construction Inspector) for projects in District 11 for the upcoming season in 2025. This position will be based out of GAIs Cranberry PA office.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure compliance with the contract documents by the contractor.
- Responsible for consulting with contractors consultants engineers job superintendents and others in matters related to plans specifications materials equipment and the methods practices and safety precautions involved in construction and installation of the work.
- Prepares daily progress reports and maintains progress schedules.
- Checks shop drawings and contractors quotations for variation.
- Maintains records of quantities and cost of materials used.
- Prepares contractors periodic progress payment claims and recommends payment.
Other principle duties:
- Travel as required a as it relates to above duties or as directed by supervisor.
- Provide positive attitude to establish competence and pride in the company.
- Other duties which may be required which are commensurate with the position.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to read write and communicate effectively in English and perform basic math computations for length area and volume.
- Minimum of one 1 year PennDOT experience or higher or minimum of two 2 years of transportation highway or bridge construction inspection experience.
- Four 4 years of highway or bridge construction nonhighway or bridge inspection or highway or bridge design experience and noninspection personnel must successfully complete the twelve 12 web based TCI training modules can substitute for other required experience.
- Civil Engineering or Construction degree can substitute for needed experience.
- Bachelors of Science degree in a nonCivil Engineering field with the successful completion of the twelve 12 webbased TCI training modules can substitute for needed experience.
The following certifications are preferred:
- NICET Level 2 or higher in Transportation/Highway Construction
- NECEPT Bituminous field certification
- ACI/PennDOT Concrete field technician certification
- PennDOT/PTC CDS certification
- ECMS experience
- OSHA 10Hour certification
General Characteristics
- Continues to develop advanced field operations skills; possesses computer skills good visual and hearing skills follows procedures; good organizational skills; working in weather conditions (extreme heat cold etc.; works with safety in mind must be flexible with work hours and willingness to travel up to 100 during the week days and occasional weekend travel and/or work able to do physically demanding work; ability to lift and carry between 25 and 50 lbs. routinely; ability to walk for lengthy periods.

Technical Responsibilities
- Reviewing plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on construction sites.
- Conduct tests and investigations in the field or laboratory to obtain data used by engineering and technical personnel in determining physical properties of construction materials.
- Collect soil asphalt and concrete samples prepare samples for testing record data and prepare summary report.
- Documenting field activities observations and testing results on projects.
- Perform laboratory and field tests according to prescribed procedures processes and standards.
- Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses reports and / or technical drawings.
- Communication of field and laboratory testing results with staff contractors and clients

- May lead projects and tasks

- Can work independently or lead crews when necessary.
Communication Skills
- Possesses effective oral and written communication skills; interacts well with other staff communicates effectively with clients field representatives able to motivate others ability to function positively in a team environment able to keep teams working harmoniously.
