SUMMARY: An Academic Interventionist is responsible for developing and implementing proactive programs to improve student behavior and attendance regularly monitoring student progress to identify those in need of support. The Academic Interventionist works directly with students. They create individualized intervention plans often working in small groups to help students build skills that promote success. Collaborating with teachers staff and parents they ensure a coordinated approach to addressing student needs. Additionally they document and report on student progress providing key insights to stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and conduct parent meetings about the academic programs available for students on campus.
  • Plan and execute parent involvement workshops and trainings to strengthen parentstudent engagement and support of their childs academic progress (ie. 21st Century student ECAPs AZCIS WestMec & Dual Enrollment).
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students.
  • Using instructional strategies gathering small groups of students to build and maximuze academic student success.
  • Plan and deliver professional development for staff on providing academic instructional strategies and other supports to prepare students for eligibility to four year colleges and universities.
  • Plan and meet with students on developing/improving college/careerlevel entry skills and the academic coping skills needed to be successful after high school.
  • Create and implement a positive reward system for recognizing academic success.
  • Create and implementa positive reward system for parents who are involvedwith school and working towards the achievement of supporting their children in academic success.
  • Coordinate with school counselors to ensurestudents academic success in their current class; monitor student progress and develop intervention plans when needed.
  • Advocating for parents and promoting interest in schooling their plans for the future and enhancing their commitment to their personal goals after high school.
  • Assist struggling students in creating academic success plans.
  • Plan and conduct intervention workshops and trainings to staff on providing intervention opportunities to students.
  • Coordinate newsletters and parent events calendar.
  • Maintain log of meetings with parents parent contacts and students.
  • Promote school goals projects and programs to the community.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students employees community members and vendors.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelors degree in education withappropriate teacher certification.
  • Masters degree with administrative certification preferred.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with academic planning and creating intervention plans.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in planning professional development.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.

ABILITIES:

  • Read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Write general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
  • Add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
  • Work with little supervision.
  • Interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
  • Apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class require: stooping crouching reaching standing walking fingering grasping feeling talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor classroom environment.
