Job Description

Client is seeking an Energy Sector Lawyer with 3 5 years of experience in Omani law. The role involves supporting the Head of Legal in regulatory compliance licensing and legal matters related to electricity generation grid connection power purchase agreements and tariffs. The successful candidate will play an integral role in ensuring the company s compliance with energy market regulations managing interactions with regulatory authorities and supporting commercial transactions related to electricity production and sale.


Energy Regulatory & Licensing Support

  • Assist in obtaining and maintaining regulatory approvals licenses and permits required for electricity generation and sale.
  • Support regulatory filings and compliance with the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) and other relevant bodies.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting energy generation grid access and market participation.
  • Maintain and update internal regulatory records compliance reports and licensing documents.

Grid Connection & Energy Market Compliance

  • Support the company s legal position in grid connection agreements and network access.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with grid codes technical regulations and metering requirements.
  • Provide legal analysis on tariff structures energy pricing mechanisms and market regulations.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and market operators on electricity market participation.

Power Purchase & Commercial Agreements

  • Assist in drafting reviewing and negotiating Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with offtakers and government entities.
  • Support contract negotiations related to electricity sales wheeling agreements and supply contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with energy trading regulations and contractual obligations.

Risk Management & Dispute Resolution

  • Assist in managing regulatory disputes tariff adjustments and contract enforcement.
  • Support the legal team in risk assessment and mitigation strategies related to energy market participation.
  • Liaise with external legal advisors regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders as needed.




Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor s degree in Law Business Law or other related field.
  • Experience: 3 5 years in energy regulatory and market compliance law preferably in a corporate legal department or law firm handling energy sector matters.
  • Legal Admission: Qualification to practice in Oman. Legal experience in other GCC jurisdictions is a plus.
Expertise in:
  • Energy market regulation licensing and compliance requirements.
  • Grid connection agreements and power purchase contracts.
  • Regulatory filings and interactions with APSR and other government authorities.
  • Language Skills: Excellent communication skills in English required; Arabic proficiency preferred.
Soft Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a legal team and support companywide initiatives.
  • High level of confidentiality and professional ethics.
