Job Description

Job Title: Technician Wage/Hour Status: NonExempt

SUMMARY:

Responsible for onsite leadership of maintenance and repair services for assigned district facilities or specific trades area. Assist Director of Maintenance Grounds and Fire Safety in maintaining the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so it may be fully used at all times.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Facilities Maintenance and Repair

  • Assign work to craft personnel and oversee completion. Initiate contract repair when work cannot be performed by district staff.
  • Assign priority to maintenance work orders and process them. Work cooperatively with principals and facilities managers to schedule and complete repairs.
  • Estimate cost of repair and maintenance projects including labor materials and other related costs.
  • Perform repairs and assist skilled workers to complete repairs as needed.
  • Inspect all district buildings and facilities and initiate repairs as needed.
  • Conduct onsite inspection of completed repair projects. Monitor and inspect contract work.

Safety

  • Provide training and orientation to all skilled workers in safety procedures and proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  • Follow established procedures for locking checking and safeguarding facilities.

Inventory and Equipment

  • Prepare implement and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for tools and equipment. Ensure maintenance is completed and equipment is in safe operating condition. Recommend replacement of existing equipment when necessary.
  • Conduct regular inventory of physical equipment and supplies and maintain accurate records. Order tools equipment and supplies as needed.

Other

  • Respond to afterhours emergency calls as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of department budget.
  • Assist in recruiting screening selection training and evaluation of maintenance employees.
  • Maintain accurate information for payroll reporting (timecards tardiness and absenteeism).
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Accurately report work hours using the time clock to report start and end times.
  • Utilize effective communication skills; ensure that all interactions are supportive courteous and respectful.
  • Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
  • Comply with all policies operating procedures legal requirements and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Texas Drivers License with a clear driving record.

Experience:

  • Four 4 years successful related experience
  • Public school experience preferred

Other:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

SPECIAL KNOWLEGDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Specific knowledge of one craft used in building repair and maintenance including carpentry; electrical repair; heating ventilation and air conditioning; painting; or plumbing
  • General knowledge of other crafts used in building repair and maintenance
  • Ability to direct and supervise personnel
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Effective organizational communications and interpersonal skills

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Monitor the work and issue work assignments to skilled maintenance workers including carpenter electrician; heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) technician; painter; and plumber.

MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

Tools/Equipment Used:

  • Small hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including forklift tractor and power mower; furniture dolly sump pumps water pumps pipe wrenches caulking gun paint stripping machine paint rollers and brushes; light truck or van

Posture:

  • Frequent standing kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions

Motion:

  • Frequent walking grasping/squeezing wrist flexion/extension and overhead reaching; frequent driving

Lifting:

  • Heavy lifting and carrying 45 pounds and over) on a daily basis

Environment:

  • Work to be completed onsite from assigned school or building
  • Work inside and outside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces
  • Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures dust noise vibration; exposure to chemical (herbicides and fertilizer) and electrical hazards
  • Work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone
  • Regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours;
  • Frequent districtwide travel
  • No remote work

Mental Demands:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress
