The Patient Services Specialist I performs routine frontend clinical operations activities which include but are not limited to scheduling registration gathering and providing appropriate information scheduling and coordinating transportation welcoming and checkingin onsite families and answering the phones. The incumbent interacts with patients families clinicians administrative staff vendors and thirdparty payers in a courteous and professional manner.
1. Ensure complete and accurate patient registration/checkin. Obtain necessary and required information for both clinical and financial documentation.
2. Receive and greet patients and their families and coordinate the overall patient flow in the Care Center.
3. Answer the phone provide information to callers and direct callers to the correct destination as appropriate.
4. Schedule multiple disciplines including contacting families for availability and coordinating with clinicians.
5. Monitor and collaborate with clinicians and families regarding waitlists for center.
6. Complete reminder calls for upcoming appointments.
7. Monitor work queues and reconcile as needed.
8. Provide routine financial guidance under direction of the appropriate department and seek assistance from the supervisor when obtaining answers to resolve patient issues.
9. Retrieve and assess system information related to insurance authorization for patient services from the Patient Access.
10. Maintain an updated general understanding of insurance requirements as they relate to the collection of accurate information at the Care Center.
11. Schedule and coordinate patient transportation to and from the Kennedy Krieger Institute.
12. Function as a member of the Child and Family Support Center and Care Center team through positive participation in all aspects of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must gain sufficient competence in Epic system within the first 60 days of employment. Must complete training as needed to maintain proficiency after Epic or department updates/changes.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Associates degree or higher preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 12 years of experience in patient registration preferred.
